The bolded is such a stupid comment. It’s obviously from someone who doesn’t understand the game as it stands. Physicality and intimidation is and always has been a part of sport. There’s always been role players because there isn’t enough stars to ice a full team of them.
If you wanna hotdog it out there like it’s pond hockey, when the score is lopsided, then be prepared for guys to react. Plain and simple. - LeftCoaster
True and the crosscheck doesn't happen if Zegras isn't standing in the crease jamming his stick into the goalie as well.

You know that change in hockey culture that's always talked about. It's clearly going to take a little longer if some still think the same way you do.
Nobody goes to the rink to watch Jay Beagle punch out a guy because his teammate scores a highlight reel goal. - manvanfan
It’s not about Jay Beagle, it’s about a young kid showing up your organization and it’s players. The bigger picture. |

I don't know which game you were watching but Beagle did not ambush Terry.
Zegras was standing in the paint and jammed his stick into the goalie trying to free the puck. Anyone who does that gets lumber in the NHL. Beagle was then attacked ... which is a pretty standard reaction as well. Terry initiated the exchange... Beagle looks bad for pounding a little guy like him but your story is pure fiction. - boonerbuck
Late to the party. I've already said my piece based on experience and what actually happened. So now a guy who has probably zero career fights, and left the exchange with his gloves still on, is the one who initiated the fight? There's your fiction right there. |

Lol. Those top line 30 goal guys just aren't used to it. Guaranteed Beagle has to answer the bell next time they play. - Load Management
Sure, and he’d better show up. |

Maybe go back and read my original post. It's not a square up and throw them fight. I stand by that.
Seems to me like Beagle decided to drop his gloves and start throwing them before Terry realized it had escalated to that point. That's pretty much an ambush. Regardless of how you want to skew the rest of the variables, that's what happened. One guy was in the fight before the other....that's not squaring off. - Load Management
Well ambushing an attacker isn't instigating it. There's no squaring of in a scrum over goalie contact and a player being crosschecked for it... it's a free for all historically. Having been in over 150 fights, I know you don't sit there and wonder if these people rushing you intend no harm when the situation has already gotten aggressive.

I agree with both of you, however, if you wanna enter a scrum then before you get there you’d better be of the mentality that you may need to fight…so be ready or stay the fuck out of it. - LeftCoaster

Yet Beagle, a plug who no one comes to the rink to see play beats up a star player and it's fine because you shouldn't mess with the bull.
 - manvanfan
Plug or not, why would the great Troy Terry start punching him. He got a licking that he basically asked for. |

Of course, 99.9% of the time nothing comes of it these days, but the point still stands for me. You wanna (frank) with the bull, be prepared to get the horns. - LeftCoaster
Can't help but remember that game where Boeser casually tried to lock his arm around a players neck to keep him from skating towards a scum and the player turned around and pounded him. Boeser was still holding his stick thinking he was going to keep this guy from helping his mates. I forget who he was but it was embarrassing

What picture is that? Players should avoid making nice plays to not get their face punched in? To not engage physically at all for fear of being battered and bruised by some plug who sucks at hockey? That would make some great hockey. NOPE.

That's not why it happened. It didn't help the situation. May have been the root of the over reaction but it happened after Zegras stood in the paint and jabbed his stick into the goalie trying to free the puck. That should never go unanswered and if you are a 4rth liner or Dman in this league, you give it to him or shouldn't even have a contract.
Why are people rewriting what happened. You know the video shows you to be dishonest about the chain of events?

It wasn't exactly a square off and drop the gloves fair fight. Beagle ambushed him. - Load Management
dude...Beagle cross checks Zegras as he's pounding at the goalie it's an act we've all seen in the NHL a thousand times before.
Then Terry comes in and grabs on to Beagle (who is known to fight) and Terry gets trashed? WTF are Zegras and the pundits whining about?? Hockey is not playground material bro. Yet lol. |

Probably... but it's weird watching you express that but under the same type of code, ignore Zegras and Terry bringing it upon themselves.

There are many double standards within the code that apply to star players. Especially young ones. |

I am not aware of any nice play that Troy Terry made, I am only aware of the fact that he came after Beagle and punched him, then proceeded to get pummeled. Boo-hoo for Troy Terry.
Maybe he learns a lesson and let's his bigger teammate, Fowler, handle the situation, as he was already in the scrum with Beagle, before Terry was involved |

So you think you can rush a player in the scrum and you face no defensive measure because you are small? Isn't that a recipe for a league full of cowardly rats getting away with everything they want because they are small?
You rush a big guy in a scrum that fights, expect to get punched out.
For the record, I don't think in a different situation where Beagle and Terry look themselves in the eye and Terry wiggles the gloves does Beagle drop and pound the little fart back into his bumhole... but in the middle of a crease frenzy when you are being rushed by multiple players, it's just how it is and I'm sure Terry understands that now. Welcome to the NHL.

Some are assuming this happened because of some previous play. Like wow. These morons think you make a nice play early in a game you are untouchable for the remainder of the season.
