so the discussion has to drive that way, what will likely happen. - wcorvette
I'm sure Fletch would love to trade a 2nd-rounder++ to Arizona to take JVR, but he's out of 2nd-rounders until 2024. Their 1sts are probable lottery picks so even Fletch isn't dumb enough to go there.
That leaves, what? Trade prospects like Brink, Frost, Tippett, Attard or York to get rid of a contract, when the team needs production right now on ELCs to balance out the bloat? No go there.
There's just no easy palatable way to get rid of JVR's cap hit completely. Arizona is about to be on a subsistence level operating budget. Seattle has been extraordinarily reluctant to take on any salary at all. Ottawa's ownership is now up in the air. Detroit and Anaheim are in the midst of turnarounds.
Yeah, what would Chucky do, but also be mindful that he's not gonna be able to achieve everything on his wish list b/c circumstances/reality. |

He probably tops out as a Rod Brind'Amour. That's a player every team wants if given the chance. Only problem is Nolan Patrick was the same type, and still fresh in everybody's minds.
- Tomahawk
Maybe people have developed NoPa Syndrome. Patrick had injury issues and missed quite a few games. He should have been returned to junior for at least 1 year. The outcome sucks but we shouldn't be afraid of 1st overall picks lol. |

JVR is still somewhat productive and actual cash is lower so that helps. Wont need to dump a 2nd as Ghost had zero value. Maybe JVR does as well.
Plus Arizona may want future picks seeing how many they have in the next 2 years, So 2024 2nd baby....Chuck will be gone so he don't care. |

Adam Ginning
Connor McClennon
Gavin Hain
Jack St. Ivany
Marcus Westfält
McClennon I'm confident will be signed. Hain & Westfält I doubt will be. Ginning & St. Ivany I see as maybes.
after Attard what is left - wcorvette
Was JOB and Ginning back to back picks?

Team isn’t going anywhere the next two years anyway. Not sure why people care about moving JVR for anything. |

Exactly. Find out where Tanner, Allison, Tippet, Cates , Frost and possibly Desnoyer and Forrestor slot out and then look to fill in gaps. You dont just go buy a name for the sake of doing it and that is the only reason to get rid of JVR's bloated contract.

all true but this is where a GM earns their $$$, they need to find the right way if that is their mandate. I start with Oscar because I think he will add value to any team, especially a young team, first sweetener. Then they can start talking about salary retention and picks. While JVR is not worth the 5 mil real money he still brings some value (20 goals) and it is not a multi-year deal, it is one year. Trading for JVR you could also bet with him playing to stay in the NHL, he has a decent season and you flip him for a pick at next seasons deadline, not that any Flyer has ever left and played better elsewhere. |

If the Flyers cannot get a team to take JVR with salary retained while not giving up an asset than I say buy him out. Save $4.3 next year and add $1.3mil the following.
That is of course if they are hell bent on moving him. Personally, I do not think he is blocking anyone at the moment. So ride it out unless a viable hockey trade can be made. |

Can we hire Kimmo now, geez talk about a guy who gets it. I know someone mentioned it before but it’s up on broad street hockey for those interested. |

The guy who runs the team and the GM believe otherwise.
It is clear as day what direction this team is headed. |

kind of the chicken and the egg for CF. He wants to retool aggressively, he needs to move salary, JVR needs to go so he can make deals. I hate the buyout, I add sweeteners to a certain level before I buy out. I only include Lindblom because it clears more space and they have winger depth. I would like to keep our picks.

There are a bunch of posters on here who get the same thing here. I don't want any of them to run the team. It's honestly not that difficult to figure out.

I hate buyouts. With that being said, the buyout is infinitely more acceptable than giving Lindblom away to move JVR.

Everything he said is just common sense. Anybody who isn't toeing the company line or actively trying to save their job would tell you that this team needs to rebuild and play the kids and stop valuing truculence over things that matter more. Hardly a qualification to become GM lol.
It's funny how excited people get all with the idea of turning the team over to the next generation of former Flyers players. Briere, Kimmo... yeah no thanks. How about some actual qualifications and/or track record of success? |
