What is going on with Monohan? He was an absolute beast. Can’t imagine how hard he had to fall if you’re seriously suggesting moving JVR for him.

someone said injury, his hips and over time it just doesn't get better, someone said.

Between Brink, McClennon and Andrae, we have cornered the undersized market. I say pass on adding to that list with a first rounder. They can't all be DeBrincat and St. Louis. Some of them will be Odeen Tufto.

I think Montreal beat us to that….

What would you think of a trade involving two buyout canidates? Both only have year left.

Would you do Monahan for JVR?

Or do you think Calgary would just prefer the buyout and get the cap space? If they lose Gaudreau maybe they could use a winger?

It was just a thought. I don't see JVR back next season as it will be either a buyout or trade.

- J35Bacher

But why would Calgary trade for the more expensive player if they can just let Monahan's contract expire or buy him out? They also gain cap space after this year with Brouwer's buyout money coming off the books.

you have to start somewhere, could the Yotes not turnaround and flip Linblom for a higher pick, or are trades limited to one step?

Curious what you would do?

- wcorvette

No. The cost to dump that much salary is likely a top-45 pick, maybe even a 1st-rounder if there's enough competition. You're not gonna get that by flipping Oskar in the summer time.

What's the point of getting rid of JVR right now? Are they gonna be any good next season? Do we really want to expend more draft capital to make room to sign another non-difference maker like Risto or Kevin Hayes? Just let that contract expire, free and clear.

So he's only a bubble top player because of his size?
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

That's just one guy's opinion. Other scouts have Savoie inside the top-5 with clear top-line potential.

Damn that sucks. I always saw him as Coots with a better offensive game.

Major hip and wrist injuries. He lost a lot of zip on his trademark shot, so he doesn't really have any weapons left. And his hip was so bad last season that if he could barely walk off the ice. And he doesn't take pain killers, so he can't crash test dummy through the season like Kesler used to.

Because they are in win now mode. 2/3 players away. Blank check.

Yep...just send him to the popcorn suite. If he doesn't like it then discuss mutual termination terms.

True that. I hope our Dman comes through because Caufield can do it. Having said that, Brink may be able to as well. It is hard to judge how fast/slippery he really is.

As Bill said, they're delusional enough to believe they can turn it around, but they're not quite delusional enough to believe they can win the Cup next season.

Worst thing they can do is to do a repeat of what Chuck did w/ Ghost or what Chuck did with AMac.

you are speaking about what I expect, that is irrelevant, we know the mandate, so the discussion has to drive that way, what will likely happen. I agree that the Yotes will be a hotspot but I start with Oscar who is an established middle six player, he needs more time coming back from what he went through but I think most see him being successful. JVR is not without value, they will need some vets as their 100's of picks take a year to develop. People pay to see goals and 1 year at 5 mil real money and 7 on the cap, his contract helps in ways. Like I said, it would be starting point with Yotes, Sens, Seattle and maybe a team or two more. Might you have to add more, probably but we know CF is going to do something, he is going to want to clear space for FA.

If you want the me idea? I stated numerous times that the current flyer team could be dead last by the end of the season. Most other low end teams have been drafting and playing their kids all season, they should be getting better, the Flyers are bottoming out. I would get every pick I could, not buy anyone out, lets contract expire and age another year and tell the fans we are going to be really bad next season. I would go for the top pick, then I would go after the mandate to retool.

If my plan was not working next season, I would sign Yandle to a multi year deal. it would ensure success.

If they want a team to take on the full cap, then they will need an asset to go with JVR. IMO that is what they want his whole salary moved off the books. He will very likely be gone one way or another.

What did chuck do with Amac? The buyout? That was a solid move as they no longer wanted him around. No issue with that.

That being said, pretty sure we are going to take Lambert.

The scouting confidence level is even worse than usual this time around from all the canceled games and tournaments and off-ice challenges. Trading up is riskier than usual.

Analysis: Lambert is a high-end athlete. His skating ability is explosive. He has great speed and edgework, allowing to cut away from pressure easily. You combine his skating with strong hands and he’s a go-to guy for zone entries. He can make tough plays in motion and shows o-zone creativity. He can use his skating to circle too much at times but this season showed more willingness to attack directly. He’s full of potential, even though I’ve seen him take a lot of nights off. I think he will be a top-six winger in the NHL but he may frustrate coaches.

Shane Wright had a very slow start to the season. He's played extremely well since then, including 18pts in his last 10 games. The World Juniors only lasted 2 games for Team Canada, where he got 1 assist playing as a 17yr old. He wasn't underwhelming.

If you're looking for the wow factor, that isn't Wright's game. He's a two-way forward with above average offensive abilities. He plays a cerebral game and can get into the right places. He'll apply pressure and cash in on his opponents mistakes with his quick hands, accurate and well placed shot or pass.

If Wright was in the 2023 draft, he'd likely go third overall. You're getting a really good prospect, not McDavid.

He probably tops out as a Rod Brind'Amour. That's a player every team wants if given the chance. Only problem is Nolan Patrick was the same type, and still fresh in everybody's minds.

He was 100% underwhelming in the world juniors games this year . Did you even watch them or just blurting out stats?
