Yeah you guys beat us in the semis last year. What a dynamic offensive powerhouse they were. Losing to any team from Pittsburgh sucks especially out there. Almost had a clean sweep this year but Malvern got edged out. High School hockey at the higher level teams is so so good. Good luck

Not in this area. Minny, NE prep , independent scene ( Northwood, Lawrenceville). Not a good comparison.

Either way glad you enjoyed your kids game.

News to me. Also was never mentioned by Homer in his 8 hours of interviews with Jay Greenberg for Flyers at 50. But certainly could have happened. Just don't know who was involved.

No reason for him to play again this year.
- PLindbergh31

No, no reason to rush him back. Just saying…he must be having serious post concussion symptoms. Pretty scary if you have a history of concussions

You are deflecting.

You said "Poile could have chosen another player."

I just pointed out why there was no other player. These are not opinions, its fact.

Duchene and RyJo were in fact being shopped/Dump, that is a fact

Ekholm being more cost effective than Ellis is a fact

Forsberg being the teams top forward since 2014-15 is a fact.

Ellis was the only player to move. That is a fact.

Ellis' injury history has nothing to do with it. If NSH had the money they wouldnt have made that deal.

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

We can debate your "facts" but that would be a waste of time. I'm not deflecting, I'm using simple common sense. Which you are failing to do. For example, you state that Ekholm is more cost effective. If that is the case and Poile chose to keep him instead, it is still a choice that he made. He still had the option to move Ekholm instead. See if that can sink in. You are naïve to think that Ellis injury history and the term he had left on his contract had nothing to do with it. It had everything to do with it. NHL teams that are in a playoff spot and hope to contend don't trade top pairing RH defenseman in cost cutting moves. Especially not for what Piole received in return.

Preds asked a price that would be laughably cheap for even a rental. They gave up a highly regarded not young but not old 1st pairing guy, a RHD, signed, no NMC, for a pittance.

This is pretty strong circumstantial evidence that they knew Ellis had some concerns, presumably injury

The reason they managed to move Ellis and not RJo was probably because the latter's ask price was much higher, because he had no such injury concerns. So there is an indirect reason that injury is indeed the reason that the Ellis trade occurred.

Montreal seems to really be buying in to what St. Louis is doing. Also has Luke Richardson as one of his assistants. A team lacking in talent, with some direction and structure, sure is playing some spirited hockey.

What I would give to see spirited play.

His price wasn't higher at all imo. He has had a steady decline in production the last few years. with a cap hit of 8 million with 4 years left my guess is he wasn't very desirable.

Price for RyJo wasnt hight, they exposed him to give him away for free. The reason Ellis was moved over RyJo was one has been earning his contract the other hadnt and was 2 mill more

Johansen was an 8M a year player coming off a 7 goal 22 point season in 48 games. Any attempt to move him would've likely required either sweetening with more assets or salary retention.

They exposed him in the expansion draft, which exposed him to one team. Which it seems you are forgetting. Knowing that his contract would protect him.

In the not-breaking news department: Eight years later, we’re being told that the Rangers had something going with the Flyers at the 2014 deadline, whereby Ryan Callahan would have gone to Philadelphia for a couple of prospects. It is only when that fell through that the Blueshirts turned to Tampa Bay and pulled off the captains’ exchange for Martin St. Louis, according to a well-placed source.

Bill any idea who was involved?

- hello it's me 2050

Speaking of trades that didnt happen with TB

There was an earlier deal with the Flyers and Tampa that had Vincent Lecavalier coming here that the TB owners nixed. This was before their first cup in 04, His gear bag was packed by the equipt man ready to be shipped. Never found out who was coming from the Flyers, that intrigued me.

The deals that almost happened we never hear about....good discussion instead of the current quagmire

My expectations for him are getting lower every week. He does some good things here and there but it doesn’t seem to be clicking at the NHL level for him. For the speed they claim for him he never uses it either. He’s having an extremely difficult time adjusting his game, he needs to find it soon.

I would give anything to transfer the heart of Mayhew, Wilhelm, MacEwen, PBrown or any of the other scrubs into MF. Kid shows me no desire whatsoever to be better.
He enjoyed a junior career of skating against people still trying to figure it out, he was ahead of curve in JR. now in NHL he is under curve by a longshot.

His trade price wasn't higher then. But the money needed was higher. Effectively, it comes to the same thing for discussing the Ellis trade.

And if Poile woke up an hour before the trade deadline he would have moved he second and a third for a Zamboni.
Let's rehash everything from last summer.

Its not a choice.

Its pretty black and white. Nashville needed to cut Salary.

Ekholm's cap hit is 3.75 mill. His actuall salary is 5 Mill. Goes up to 5.5 mill in his forst season of his new contract.

Ellis has a cap hit of 6.25 mill with an actual salary of 7.7 mill.

This is not a choice. One is making more than the other. One accomplishes what NSH is looking to cut.

Ekholm was just re-signed. You dont sign a guy to immediately
trade him unless it is agreed upon by the player ahead of time.

Saying moving Ekholm is a choice is like saying its a choice for Holland to move McDavid for Macewen. It isnt, its just stupid.

Quagmire is the best Family Guy character.

Let's beat this topic to death.

It is more interesting then dissecting the mindset of a GM pre-post trade of what amounts to a bag of rocks at this point.

The price was two young NHL roster players who were perhaps reclamation projects but who had been very highly regarded at one point not that long ago.
-Bill Meltzer

I personally think if anyone was fleeced in this deal with was Poile. What does he have to show for getting rid of one of the best RHS defenseman in the league? The fact that Ellis got hurt this year was a fluke IMO, he will back next year and contributing, at least, I hope he will ...

It was a choice that was made. You can keep applying whatever you want to apply. They made a choice on who to move. None of the factors that you bring up changes that it was a choice that was made. Nor does it change the obvious that the reason why they chose to move Ellis was his injury history and his contract.

Actually your last comment bringing up a unrealistic choice, yes it would still be a choice is what is stupid.
