Why are you still wasting time "righting" about this team? Just quit already.. you're the most toxic commenter (Fan) i've ever had the displeasure to endure... seriously it's painful. If i wanted to hear every time i read an "Oiler Blog" about how this righter is garbage, management is garbage, players.. coaches.. bla bla bla. Guess what I'D GO READ THE LEAFS OR FLAMERS COMMENTS!!!

Yeah, Oilers threw in the towel months ago. Holland's high income lifestyle is safe no matter what he does(including doing nothing). A few good games of Koskinen is enough to forget years of substandard goaltending. Paint the Oilers' motto right at center ice: MAYBE NEXT YEAR!

McDavid has just as much chance at a cup if he stays home next year and never touches his skates.

That's what they are reporting now. A typical brutal Holland move, if that is the case.

I always liked Kulak as a Flame, and he proved himself in Montreal. Like Derek Ryan, you're going to like having him up north.

Updated the blog, the trade for Kulak was a second round pick and Lagesson for Kulak at half retained salary.

Surprisingly reasonable cost for Brassard, but I still don't like that second for renting Kulak until the end of the year. Seems like a huge waste, even if he is a small step up from playing Lagesson/Broberg/Niemelainen/Russell in that spot.

I would not be surprised for Edmonton to extend Kulak at some point here as well. Local guy (does matter to a degree) and still in his prime and could be a useful player over the next 3+ seasons.

Fine concept if you can keep him south of 2 mil, and the team isn't comfortable with Broberg as a full time player yet, and they don't freaking resign Russell again, and they keep Koekkoek in the minors or move him. Broberg can then come up full time when Keith is gone the year after, if he's ready.

I think the Oil faithful will like Kulak. Would have liked to have seen him come here (again).
Now about that goaltending...

Kulak is a reliable 3rd pairing D, not flashy but he has his moments ... the way I see it, a 2nd round pick was the price to pay to get him with some salary retained by Montreal.

We all know that NHL ready D's demand a premium price before playoffs start.

The fact that we have to pay extra for salary retention on a 1.8mil contract is really sad, considering the fact that we are fighting just to hold onto a playoff spot.

Derrick Brassard? Last time I heard that name was when someone was saying he was past his prime in 2015. I haven’t been this underwhelmed since the Oil traded Josef Beranek for German Titov.

If its a second its WAY too much for a third pairing LD. I mean we have tons of third pairing LDs. He would work this year but I don't think they would even want to resign him in the summer. So it is a second for a rental when we don't even have a starting goalie. I wouldn't have given more than a 4th for him. Especially if the pick is for 2023.

Who cares about the pick. We draft Tyler Benson's in the 2nd round anyways

More recently we draft Ryan McLeod's and Raphael Lavoie's in the second round, so IMO it is still too much. Our draft history sure does leave a lot to be desired though, it's pretty horrid.
