Well I do think the Leafs could use more of that but it's mostly that I'm not sure what Giordano is supposed to be anymore.
He's not great at defending, he's not a significant offensive threat anymore... he's got tons of experience which is great and he can still skate but... does he move the needle all that much when Muzzin comes back since someone needs to play on his wrong side for all this to fit? - Scabeh
He is good at defending… this is his first negative plus/minus year since 2015-16 (he’s only had 4 over his entire career) and it’s kind of obvious that was due to playing for a team in their first year. He still puts in roughly half a point a game playing D (a little light this year but safe to say that’s due to the team he played for). And he’s got a strong first pass which he’ll be now using to one of the best forward groups in the league (which will make one hell of a difference).
I think you’re being a tad judgemental of a guy who was playing for an expansion team this year. |

I think the Leafs got their target, Dubas said he wasn't interested in a rental for a 1st ++. Bruins have lots of cap space, Leafs don't.
Should be a super exciting day of trade deadline for TSN and Sportsnet. - winsix
Well they technically got all rentals. Labouche, Gio and Blackwell are all pending UFA's.
But they kept their 1st, so thats good. |

IMO
Florida.
I dont believe we could beat Carolina in a 7 game series...(although they have Andersen....so it depends which version of him shows up)
Tampa, kinda the same boat, they have elite goaltending and so much depth, quality coaching that I dont see the leafs beating them in 7.
Florida has good depth, quality D and forwards......but they have Bob. I could easily see Bob pitching a few stinkers in a 7 game series. - Fakepartofme
Not sure why Carolina would be so difficult, Leafs have beat them 2 out of 3 games this season, including the last two. Roger would yell at you if he was here.

So, didn't backread... are people happy?
Cost wasn't that bad but I still have doubts that Giordano was the guy the Leafs needed. - Scabeh
Take a look at our drafting record for the past seven years past the first round.
Our best pick was Dermott - and we just gave him away for a 3rd round pick.
The price was just fine. |

Ideally? Probably Lindholm, but the price was most likely too much for Dubas.
Other than that... Chiarot or Manson would have been a better "fit" imo. Manson mostly because he's a RD.
Then again were these guys priced out of Toronto as well? In Chiarot's case, most likely.
Now I'm not saying Giordano won't help, of course he will. Just don't see him filling much of a need except maybe that slapper from the point Dozzer mentionned. - Scabeh
Honestly it was Chychrun or maybe Mayfield. Both have term, one obviously much more talented, both the leafs could have used both.
Gio should help stabilize the D and I think he will help to improve Brodie...who's already be great since signing here. |

Lol and Dubas usually never does that.
Eh I might as well be happy because no point in being upset by it. Dubas made moves. Wants to go for it.
Now its on the players. |

Well he had a similar offensive output playing for Calgary last year.
And he's had the most offensive start in his team in Seattle, so he wasn't really counted on in defensive situations.
I don't know, I've said it before the trade I didn't feel he was the right player for the Leafs, up to him to prove me wrong. God knows I've been wrong before.

I haven't done extended research of the guy, just from what I saw.
Good for the Leafs if the stats claim otherwise.

Gio told Francis he wanted to go to TO and Francis helped him out because he's a class act. Giroux told Fletcher that he would only accept a deal to Florida because he's a wiener

Ah so your assertation is they should have got the Cadillac but couldn't afford it (Lindholm) and if not that they should have got the Hab or Manson over the guy who is from Toronto, can bring additional vet presence and wants to be in Toronto?
I'm confused as to how you can think Gio doesn't fill a need other than to bring a slap shot from the point to the Leafs. They just picked up a guy who will play top 4 minutes, in addition to the clapper and who really wants to be a Leaf, has a history with Brodie and as I said brings some additional vet stability to the d-core.
Good news is I've yet to hear a Leaf fan complain about the trade and to get that level of acceptance to a trade by Leaf Nation is saying something.
I disagree with your take on this but time will tell, I could be eating crow down the road and fully admit we won't know until we know!

Morning, Scabby.
I went to the game at the Bell Centre Saturday night. As you said, still a good arena - 30 years later (the last time I was there was 1997).
And not to brag or anything, but I met Youppi!. Really nice guy - unless you are Tommy Lasorda.

There was a time when I could dive in and give my opinion on these guys.
Now, unless they play on the top two lines of the Leafs, I don't know them.
Sigh. |

Glad you enjoyed it! And yes, Youppi is the absolute best.
I'm going to a game on the 29th, first game in over 3 years. First time with my son and I decided to bring my dad along for his birthday.
Should be lots of fun.

Im sure he would.
I just think Carolina can be so sneaky, they have the ability to play various styles of game play as they seem to adjust pretty easily on the fly. The wildcard is Andersen of course, but I could see our top stars getting frustrated by the canes.
Hopefully its not the case, but we'll see. |

I'm also very happy with the return the Habs got.
And I guess Lindholm's cost priced him out of Toronto as well. - Scabeh
I don't love the 38 year old part, and I don't love the fact that he's a rental (although there does sound like an opportunity to keep him if he plays well enough and wants to stay _and_ is affordable), but he can play top-4 minutes and can add a dimension to the second power play that we don't have presently. I think he'll help stabilize the D simply by allowing others to move down the depth chart and play roles to which they're more accustomed (or more specifically, it will let Holl, Sandin, Liljegren and a healthy Muzzin play lesser competition which could see them "flourish" again).
I'm sure we would have liked Lindholm, but as Anaheim got better, he didn't and I'd find that alarming. dozer (not Dozzer) noted that he's been covering for the roving and young Drysdale, but that doesn't explain his taper over the last 3 years. Is Lindholm better than half our D? Yes he is. Was he the guy we needed either? I don't know, but I don't think so. |
