I think that if they truly wanting to resign Letang, they may want to check with his thoughts before trading his longtime D partner...

Matheson has been quite good with us. Still has his wtf moments, but he is good. We do miss Hornqvist though. Could use a guy like him crashing the net and getting the greasy goals.

Yeah, that part has been widely reported, but until know I haven't read any interest in Chiarot. It really wouldn't make any sense for the Pens, so I'm hoping that part is bullpoop.

He is a rental with an asking price of a 1st and a 3rd with some retention. That doesn't sound like Hextall at all.

Matheson has been awesome, but it still wasn't the move to make. The Pens didn't need to make this move and are still having issues with middle-six scoring.

It really doesn't. At this point he's been so conservative that if he gives up a 1st I have to think it's for a real substantial move.

Only way I see him making sense in a trade. Is if we are trading Pettersson and Kap to Montreal for Chiarot (so we have space at the end of the season) and someone of actual worth to this team. Otherwise I don't see him as a main focal point for us

Even if the Pens moved Pettersson they wouldn't need another dman IMO. I also don't know that Kapanen makes any sense for MTL if they're going to rebuild.

He was set up to fail with the kind of deployment he was given in the playoff run, but the tema won and it is the kind of thing that elevates Dumoulin’s perceived value to many of the hockey men running teams in the league.

As soon as I read this, I thought to myself, "Sounds like some Brooks Orpik bashing is on its way." I was not disappointed.

Impact wise probably a push. So it comes down to what we could use more, a middle six RW net front guy or a bottom 4 puck mover. Matheson’s done really well here but I think if we were able to trade him straight up for Hornqvist right now, I’m probably making that trade. We’re currently 5 deep on NHL LDs and really only have one RW capable of contributing offensively in a top 6 role.

The Canes announced that Brendan Smith, the defender that took a puck to the head against the pens a few weeks ago, is cleared medically. He still has hearing loss and suffered a fractured skull from the puck. That is insane he is already cleared.

Mtl GM said he wants to retool a team based around speed. So Kap makes sense in that way.

Chairot makes no sense though regardless. LD is the only thing we have lots of.

Matheson is having a good year. I think most people were legitimately concerned we brought in a 5mil 3rd pairing D. Don't know if this is the player we'll get long term, but the Pens sure could use a net front game. Still too early to tell.

Horny right now looks well onto the downward side of the aging curve. box cars show 9 goals and 14 assists. Points are comparable to Kapanen, McGinn, and Heinen but higher shot volume. Nonetheless, shots may be propped up some with PP time, 3 G 4 A on from power play and playing for a super high scoring team.

Regardless, Horny would have been a lot more helpful to the Pens last year than having a surplus and over-expenditure of LHD's in the lineup.

It is about playing style.

Horny has double Kaps iHDCF60 at 5v5 despite playing on the 4th line.

Horny is in the top 20 in the league for iHDCF60 at 5v5.

Still an elite net front presence.

Horny has been in top 6 a fair bit the past few months I thought...and still on PP1

EDIT: must of only been here and there just looked at his ice times in Yahoo...about 11 to 13 mins a game...few games around 15

The conservative and nostalgic side of me hates the idea of trading Dumo but it may be something that could work out. I wouldn’t bet on it though. I really don’t see the other LHD stepping up to do everything he does. There are a lot of little things that he does that most people don’t pay attention to. And Letang having to adapt to a new partner is probably not ideal.
