Beane himself stated they are about 6.6-6.7M over.

I've noticed that spotrac has occasional discrepancies because there's sometimes contract language that is missing or misinterpreted. Mike Ginnitti is occasionally on WGR and the last time he was on, they were talking about a player whom I don't remember, saying how he had some clauses in his contract that was essentially a secret to everyone until that day. Just poop like that.

Yeah I know Diggs hit a couple bonuses, not the best place to start from but Beane is pretty good with the cap stuff.

I do not believe bonuses impact the current year's cap. Those go against the following year. I'm not certain on that but that's what I recently heard on the radio.

No, because on 3/16 that's irrelevant. I do see what you're asking.
- TheSabresTaco

I wouldn't say irrelevant because the intent has to be you're using your picks so the future cost has to built in imo.

Did i hear hes definitely using the 5th year option on Oliver? Is that in.

But i do agree that its way too early to "worry" about that money

Moving him a year after signing him to a max length deal doesn't seem like it would be a good look on the Wild to players on their own team and around the league.

The reason I ask is that Mittelstadt is a Minnesota boy. Going with Rossi and Mitts down the middle would be a lot cheaper for them

At the risk of rehashing the Botterill's Bonus Overages™ conversation again, these guys all are looking much further ahead than we do when talking about this stuff. The number we see on sites like Spotrac are not the numbers they use in their heads (or on paper) when they are dealing with contracts.

As far as being compliant for compliance sake, it is. Beyond that, he obviously needs to plan for those draft picks and create space for them.

He did say he's going to give him the option.

just for mentioning Okposo, imma go on a tangent here and state that they want him here as long as he can still function on an NHL level.

I do agree, i actually want a C on him. If his contract was half that he'd be a absolute bargain to the team

At this point, you might as well. They'll be nowhere near the cap ceiling, and the cash payment is low from here on out.

What I mean is that they'll want to re-sign him if he's still capable.

as well they should...and they should go 1-year deals for a player with concussion issues that will be 35 yrs. old at the end of his current contract...hell, if he's still playing well punching in 15-20 goals, 35-40 points at the end of next season, while providing leadership, they'd be dumb not to?

especially since he "wants to be here"

99% chance Okposo retires after his current contract, IMO.

Possibly. I think back to when they could have brought back Pominville for a reasonable contract and they didn't. Are these similar situations?

It's muscle memory this time of year for sabres brass and fans to dump half the roster for futures, pack it in and hope for next year. It's so bad now that future plans are hopefully a guy who is cross eyed from a brutal tenure on the most losing rosters in history of the game will come back as captain at 36 years old.

The bar is sooooooooooo low and fans are literally cheering for hard work during a shift. When does the Buffalo news headline "The fans have lost their love of the game"...
