Does this begin the transition to become Seth Jones and Reichel’s team. With Kane as the elder statesmen if he decides to stick around.

(Although I think Toews was amazing I think he goes on permanent LTIR after this season ala Seabs, Shaw, and Hossa, not pls next season but collecting his full pay.)

- Ztra

I would think it is ADB's team before Reichel's team. And hopefully Dach's too.

If Davidson sells off at the deadline and moves to a rebuild then you know he has full autonomy from ownership to do whatever it takes.

I don’t have my hopes up that will happen though.

Let us rejoice that they are not announcing Peter Chiarelli the next GM.

Yes, and yes.

Just because it was a “safe” choice doesn’t make it the wrong one.

Kane, Fleury, Hagel, Murphy, daHaan, Jones, Jones, Strome, Carpenter….?

Should I keep going?

Why would they force a deal with Toews or Kane before they see how the next season goes? Seems like another stupid way to keep the old guard together for no other reason than nostalgia. The trade deadline shouldn't have any bearing on when decisions should be made
- GPHawksfan

I did not say force a deal. I said talk to their agent and find out where their head is at. Big difference. You plan one way if their interests and expectations are aligned with yours. You plan a very different way if their interests and expectations do not align with yours.

Exactly...everyone.

Figure some cap hits and conversations may have to heat back up again this summer...but everyone should be dangled.

I also get some of these guys wont' fetch much, but it's better than keeping them and losing them for nothing. Asset management.

lets see what the Hawks have to say at 130 pm

Agreed. and the only guy you really need to talk to is.....Kane. Toews is done....either overall or as a top 6 player. Likely both.

Kane you need to see if he's onboard and if so start hammering out that extension. If not try and do right by him and sending him somewhere he has a chance to win asap (rangers).

Sure, and what do you get back besides a bunch of Brandon Mannings?

Kane is the only one that will return anything that will resemble a top prospect. Jones is untradeable, just going to have to deal with it. Trade Hagel?, this board had agena when it was suggested last week. Who would give anything for the bunch of junk you are offering up?

Borgstrom. Kubalik is basically a rental because nobody will qualify him.

What do you want them (Hawks) to do? How do you fix THIS?

I personally don't see him meddling with the roster. I suspect/fear Rocky will tell the new GM that he needs to at least partly focus on ticket sales; and that Rocky further believes that they won't sell tickets without at least looking like they are trying to contend. This would make it harder for the new GM to accumulate young, elite talent.
- mohel

Hopefully, Rocky recognizes that they tried to do that this year and it obviously blew up spectacularly. I would guess that they see it will get worse before it gets better.

Stan/The Blackhawks swung and missed at first round retreads like the Cubs developed pitching the last 10 years. 0 for everything. That's hard to do.

Many of these players have value, any team that's rebuilding most times their young players are not in the NHL, Blackhawks have way to many young players playing above their pay grade right now. It doesn't mean they are all a bust, it just means we get to watch them warts and all.

One TDL is not going to fix this. Who is going to be your goaltender next year? Your defenseman are below average, and your forward have maybe 3 that would make a SCF roster. Oh that's right, get a coach with a new system, and whalla, the players will all turn into all-stars.

Glad to see Campbell taking on a big role, that is a new voice in the room. If I was Eaton or Stewart, I hope they are dusting off their resumes. The front office needs to be fixed before you start seeing an improved product on the ice.

Since we are so young i hope KD signs some nasty free agents as well, tired of this team playing by the rules and getting penalized for it, but they have to also be able to play hockey.

You are right 1 tdl is NOT going to fix this...but either is putting band aids on this sinking ship.

Who says Fleury is coming back here? Why would he? To face 35 shots a night, with 60-75% being in high danger? Not a chance.

I am not even worried about next year, because next year really the only tell is what this organization plans on doing with 19/88 moving forward.

outside of that....they aren't winning. so why not sell where you can and start stock piling as many picks and prospects and hope that a few hit....but I am 100% kicking this can down the road...been happening since Nashville waxed them and all they have done is get worse and worse each year while paying aging guys on past performance and zig zag on what they are trying to do...win now vs rebuild.

Well Toronto tore it down, and they have the same number of playoff series wins (yes I am counting the Hawks bubble win against Edmonton) than Toronto has the last 5 years.

Edmonton with all their high first round picks and the best player on the planet are a good bet not to make the playoffs.

Yea Gus is a joke, but does this also mean an established goalie as well?
- BetweenTheDots

That would help, but it’s not a necessity. If you play a disciplined structured defensive system, then you can get away with a decent young goalie. The biggest issue with the Hawks defense is actually their forwards, in my opinion. How many forwards are good defensively on the Hawks? Maybe three or four at best, last time I checked you dress twelve forwards every game. Add C Jones and Gus to the defense and you get, well we’ve all seen it.

And all 32 GMs today would take Toronto's roster over the hawks without blinking. That's a whole other debate and before I get poked again talking about the Leafs.....

You want to keep it as is and just be good enough to not get a good draft slot, with bad deals on the books, and not good enough to make the playoffs?

No, but tearing the whole thing down to the studs is not the only way to steadily improve the club. Lets just see what the Hawks vision is, whatever it is, this BOD will hate it.

who said anything about rushing them up? I would think/hope with a new GM he would have learned that isn't the best case.

I don't get the mindset of keeping these pieces together when the results continue to show it's not working. It's insanity. Agree to disagree.

Yes, this team needs to establish some kind of identify. We are neither skilled nor tough to play against. This has evolved into a very boring team to watch.
