And again...teams don't want to trade their solid A prospects unless elite talent is coming back...something Chiarot is not.
I guess what I'm saying is you should be prepared to be disappointed with the return given what seems to be your expectations - Takemedrunkimhome
refused, make it happen ( an elite prospect back)

I'll put it differently because this is how I view it:
If I were a GM looking to make deadline acquisitions I'd probably be willing to trade my mid to late 1st round pick. I'd probably be willing to trade my B prospects. But under no circumstances would I trade any blue chip assets unless an absolute elite top line talent was coming back. As such I don't expect a potential top line d with scoring, skating and size to be made available, even without a pick in addition. People can want a prospect who is the next Pronger or Lidstrom but odds are the team that currently has them wants them just as much or more. That's the catch 22 of these rebuilds. You get nice assets back for vets but rarely any top line or top pair potential assets. Then you try and obtain those through the draft or FA typically.
If Obie's potential trade went through I'd be satisfied with the return, especially adding a quality right shot d prospect that is close to NHL ready, something the Habs sorely lack - Takemedrunkimhome
agreed, but with so many teams looking for dmen, the price might go up, especially considering the cap space. we'll see what they can get, but to me a late 1st and a B prospect would be the minimum, that's why I said they could probably get a little bit more than what Obie suggested.

I think a B prospect + 1st is already very expensive for Ben Chiarot. |

The pick will be late regardless, a non playoff team isn't trading for Chiarot and looking at things, the LA 1st could be one of the better ones available |

Adam Fox is in that same range too - Takemedrunkimhome
I couldn't believe that guy was still available in the 3rd round
In retrospect, I was wrong. My disbelief should have started in the 2nd round. |

For sure, 1st PP as well. - BashCH
If Byram wasn't questionable for his career, he would be a great guy to target with Makar running the show in Colorado and Girard being a good 3-4. |

Exactly right about teams not parting ways with elite prospects for rentals.... sure I'd want Brandt Clarke in return but that ain't happening - OB
Gotta say that'd be nice |

A lot of the best things I've got in life came from having the guts to ask. But you get a lot of no's that way too. No harm asking but expectations management should matter too |

Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. You get your price sometimes it's smart to take it rather than hold out for a deal that may never come. Could they get more? Absolutely. In all honesty I think they get less than the package Obie put together |

I've heard teams knew he may do full uni and go ufa and that held his draft status down but that's only things I've heard and not from anybody reputable |

McAvoy was a nice boy until he got drafted by the Broons. It's not his fault.
