I dont get it. Bobs days are behind him. He should retire and go off into the California sunset. Plenty of capable guys out there that could scout just as well and could use the job and career boost to get them into the manager game. But nope. Nhl old boys club just keeps regurgitating the same old poop.

What's wrong with scouting a few games in his retirement ? There's a lot of older dudes out there doing this. A good eye for talent is tough to find. Bob also has a connection to Calgary, he used to live here in the off season back in the 80s....he probably still has family here.

Why not spend the money on a scout that has a chance to progress through the organization and make a career with the flames? Why pay on old rich drunk bumhole just because he was someone’s buddy? It looks bad on the flames and there is no plus to doing it.

To be fair, the Ducks are pretty close to finishing up one of the more time-effective rebuilds the Pacific Division has seen in the last decade. The Kings are the only other team rebuilding as effectively. How much credit should be attributed to Murray, Martin Madden, or the rest of the scouting staff is hard to say though.

Fun fact: Sutter’s old buddy Rich Preston is a scout for the Ducks. Former Flames Assistant Coach.👀

How many Flames scouts can you name? How many Flames scouts are there? How old are the Flames scouts? How much does each scout make? How much does each scout drink?

You have no idea about how many scouts they have building their careers with the Flames, and hiring Murray isn't getting in the way of them. If anything he can help mentor some of them.

The Flames are also a pretty good argument for sticking with the old boys club. With the current roster, they've been one of the best teams in the league with the cranky, abusive, retread coaches and pretty mediocre under every new friendly guy they've given a shot to.

Looks like Darryl threw Barstool Bob a bone. If Calgary is getting sober Murray, they will be getting someone with a good eye for talent. If Murray falls off the wagon.... Murray was way too slow in adopting analytics into his management decisions, and the hiring of Jeff Solomon, whose job it was to shore up the Ducks' use of analytics, pushed Murray over the edge. Fortunately for Calgary, he is well removed from the decision-making of the management group.

If this makes Sutter happy then I’m happy. Can’t hurt to have another set of eyes watching kids. Scouting department has been really good for the Flames lately, Murray will only add to that.

The Flames have hired Murray to scout NHL teams in California, as well as evaluate the Flames’ American Hockey League affiliate in Stockton, California. He is an extremely experienced hockey man who lives in California.... How could this possibly be a bad thing?
