How about this year? 11/46 games. Its not looking good for him going forward. He injured himself the 1st game back in the playoffs in 2020-21
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

This year wouldn't matter as you have to go back to last summer.

Comparing him to Ellis is well not good comparison in any way. Especially the fact they play diff positons. So based on his injury "history" easily take him.

Also do you think he sat out part of last year due to cap issues and they were ok without him? Or do you think he was magically ready to go first game of the playoffs?

so is 25% not that much?

Agreed. Plus, in some ways the NCAA is a little closer to the pros because in many cases you are playing against men.

Plus you have better nutrition and access to a proper and consistent strength training program as all these schools have world class fitness and training facilities.

I agree. I believed, and still do, that the problem was more a combo of injuries and AV not understanding how to use him correctly, and it destroyed his confidence.
- MBFlyerfan

Yes.

What kind of "pressure" are players in Philadelphia under? Al Morganti with the hard hitting questions? lol acting like Philly is Toronto or Boston for hockey.

Injury prone guys don't suddenly become more durable in their 30s either.

It was a reckless gamble by Fletch, even though Ellis is probably the best blueliner they've had here since Kimmo... when healthy.

- Tomahawk

Did he really give up much for the gamble though? I understand people want a healthy Ellis, me too, but the 2 players we traded aren't exactly lighting up their new teams. I'd call it a wash.

Gotta say Im really happy to see Brink is leading the NCAA in scoring (tied).

41 points in 26 games in the NCAA is pretty impressive.

edit: Attard 21st in the NCAA and also the highest scoring defenseman.

Wasn't aware that he is doing so well. Good news for once on both fronts.

Injury prone yet he has never had an injury plagued season like this

2021-22 - Missed 41 games So Far. Likely done for season
2020-21 - Missed 21 games
2019-20 - Missed 20 games
2018-19 - Missed 0 games
2017-18 - Missed 38 Games
2016-17 - Missed 11 games
2015-16 - Missed 3 Games
2014-15 - Missed 24 Games
2013-14 - Missed 2 Games

So other than one other season where he missed 38 games he hasnt often missed that many games. Injuries happen however they generally dont happen this badly. Ellis this season has been no different than Hayes. He was hurt played through preseason hurt, and had to leave the lineup, came back got hurt again.

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

That is 160 games (and counting) that he has missed in 9 seasons, including two shortened COVID seasons. By any measure, that's a ton of games for a Pro to miss without having some kind of major, long term injury that can't be resolved.

Everyone knew this. Fletcher rolled the dice. Snake eyes.

I misread the stats. He is 29th, but still the top d man. (I was looking at PPG where he is 21st)

Still, highest scoring dman with 29 points in 25 games is still pretty impressive.

Dont worry, it will be like 20 minutes before posters start saying they aren't real points because 30+ of his points are just assists.

Wouldn't exactly call it a wash. Yea NoPa and Myers are what they are, but Ellis was brought in to be THE guy on D. Huge hole with him out of the lineup, regardless of the pieces given up in the trade.

coming out he had a high ceiling but a low floor, now they are saying the floor has gotten much higher while the upside is still there. So from bust or great to 3rd pair call or top 4. I forget who wrote the article. Either way, really good news. US, with a prospect with really good upside and doing well.

Very interesting about Briere and Wharton. I didn't know he was doing that. He's taking his career seriously.

He’s no doubt intending to seek out a certain large ponytailed professor while on campus.

NMC is not an issue he will waive it regardless. He may have a preference but he isnt going to stay here. He's going to a new team. He might not say it but there is frustration with this this team. He wants out while he has a chance to go to a contender. If Fletcher asks him to waive he will do it.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

He can go to the new team after the season. Little motivation to waive it now except a 1 in 16 shot at the cup.

NCAA only plays on the weekends tho, and they play relatively fewer games per season. Definitely pros and cons between NCAA and CHL.

You're not considering that there was 6 years left on his contract.

The trade cost is what it is... two cost-controlled younger roster players.

The opportunity cost of taking on almost $40M of future salary commitments is the big thing. As MJL said, they're gonna be stuck with that on their books until 2027 -- Ellis is not gonna retire and do the Flyers any favors.

3 of the last 4 seasons he's missed 1/4 of the season twice, and half the season once. And he's on the wrong side of 30.

Like to see the GM also be a buyer at the deadline. Add some young overlooked players on other teams that may need a change.

hopefully get a 6th rd pick for the German.....

That would be an interesting move. Rubstov is an arbitration eligible RFA so that may or may not effect things.

That is what I expect of my GM. They should be doing that every year regardless of playoff status.

Pure speculation....we have no idea what a team is willing to give up. That will be dictated by a large combination of things including...

- What did their closest competitor do? Did they make a power move?
- Have they incurred any injuries or do they want to insulate against injury?
- Do they need Power Play help?
- Are they having challenges winning draws and would like to boost that area?

the board tends to think there is no way a team would give up a blue chip but how much of that may be colored by the Flyers situation and us not being able to fathom a dearth of talent to draw from. Bottom line is there needs to be spots and cap space for blue chips to break in and find space. Sometimes they are ready and the "owning" team is locked into contracts and needs that make it easier to move one. It's not a lock but sitting in the never going to happen camp is just as bad as sitting in the we are going to get a reverse Lindros deal out of this.

- juiced

Well, I'm not in the camp that G will not waive his NMC clause or a good trade is never going to happen for the Flyers. I believe the Flyers will get a good return for G, but I want that return to give the Flyers a good chance to get top end talent. Getting a 1st round pick in the high 20s or even low 30s is not going to get it done. I would prefer the Flyers get a young prospect that is ready to play and has a big up side. Newhook fits that type of player the Flyers should be getting for G. The bottom line is, how much would hypothetically Colorado want G and how much do they believe G pushes them over the top and gets them the cup? If they believe G is the piece they need, its in the Flyers best interest to ask for Newhook, and if Colorado doesn't hang up the phone when asked, work out a deal even if it means sweetening it a bit.
