To you and to psuhockey: how does it matter what fraction shows up? Tix sold is $ earned.
- PT21

It matters because that’s concessions, parking and apparel that Comcast is missing out on.

This offseason will be the tell. If season ticket holders are still buying with Fletcher there then I will be completely wrong and this fanbase will keep purchasing this crap product for years to come until the boomers die out.

Fine. I buy it (the loss from others not buying it).

Now, put on your businessman glasses and tell me: what is the remedy? Gamble with Couts, Hayes healthy, overpay JG, have Risto throw a few hits, have TK yak it up, Allison play with vim and vinegar:that you can turn it around

Or

Rebuild for a few years, knowing you lose both tix AND revenue that you will never recoup?

Arena revenue, ok....

Remember the Sixers years before they sold? Years of bubble team status knowing team is not a legit contender? Followed by a tank of historic proportions?

Maybe thats what should give us hope.

- PT21

sixers never ever were a draw unless they were good. Cant compare them agreeing to tank to the flyers.

Don't htink they would if there is a clear plan in place and light at the end of the tunnel. Like the Lindros years

The flyers need a superstar player. That is first and foremost imo.

You rebuild. If it’s done right it won’t take 3 or more years to get the fans back. Buffalo sold out once Eichel was drafted. A good pick this year and a little luck next year at the draft and the building would theoretically only be empty for the remainder of this season and all of 2022.

Maybe the Flyers get a bump with a Gaudreau signing but that will be short lived. There is nothing they can do this offseason to build a division winner. Without the high level talent they would have to play a boring defensive system trying to get games into overtime like Hakstol did so at best you are looking a a mediocre team in the wildcard spots followed by a quick playoff exit. Maybe Hart steals a round but then a it’s right to the curb in the 2nd round followed by a likely drop in the 2023 season because a team of 30 year olds isn’t staying healthy two years in a row. We will all be back having the same conversations two years from now but with what looks like a great draft in 2023 being a wasted opportunity to turn the team around for the long haul.

Discuss. Much better subject than parking in Philadelphia.

A fan revolt has been going on for awhile, you just haven’t noticed. The Penguins playoff series was in 2018. If anything fans are more jaded now. This franchise has nothing to sell anymore.
- psuhockey

No it hasn't. The fans will eventually come back when they start winning again. Remember, eventually can't be disproven. As soon as they become a playoff level team again, the fans will come back. This dip which is probably more related to Covid and inflation than apathy, will have zero effect on how the team operates.

For this year, except for concessions it does not. For the future, it means a lot. Leadership is not focused on this year, they're looking forward.

If they cared about winning the Cup, they would bite the bullet, go full on rebuild, and try to win it. To heck with the temporary rounding error. Since they don't care (imho) they'll do just enough to minimize the financial impact and muddle on.
- Scoob

Why would an organization who thinks that you don't have to do that to build a cup team, do that? It's not that they don't care. It's that they're incompetent.

Matvei Michkov and Adam Fantilli look great as well. Trying to compete next year may be the stupidest thing this franchise has ever done and that’s saying something.

you think they would for 1 year just try to strip it down to get the best odds to get that top pick.

odds are better they trade the 2023 1st!!!

Sixers are 2nd in the league in attendance. Are basketball fans richer and less worried about illness than hockey fans?

I disagree with you that the off season will be a tell. Do you think the fans are just going to take the word of the team from the press conferences? Or react to what they do in the off season? They'd have to acquire some high level players to have that effect. They will have to get the team back to playoff level and the fans will have to see the team play at that level for a significant period of time.

The Sixers have been a quality team and they have a superstar, a generational player in Embiid to go and watch play.

They have to put a product on the ice that fans want to pay to see. Hockey is getting more and more expensive to go to a game. Money is tight for a lot of people now. They're far less willing to spend whatever excess they can to go see a hockey team when the team isn't good. Hell, it's often not fun to watch on TV. Think about if you spent all that money to take your kid to a game?

Philadelphia is much MUCH more of a basketball city than hockey. I would go to those games during the process era and it still packed a full house depending on opponent.

I would bet dollars to donuts even after Embiid is gone they'll still draw a crowd.

There is this as well. The Flyers are popular in this city but the reality is that they are still a distant 4th behind the other three teams. Really TWO teams. The gap between the Iggles and the Phillies/Sixers is as big as the gap between those 2 and the Flyers IMO.

odds are Frost out and Cates in. With the Flyers lineup the Jets should win this game, hoping it stays close
