There is zero urgency for them to sell. They make a killing by owning the arena. Until/ if ever they decide to get away from the arena then and only then will they sell.

Unless the relocate the team!!!

Well they did play their homes games in Quebec when the roof blew off the Spectrum in their inaugural season.

Casual fans always come and go. More are created when the team has some success. The diehards will absolutely come back if the team makes it to the playoffs. If you're hoping for some fan induced revolt to change how the team operates. You have set yourself up for disappointment.
- MJL

A fan revolt has been going on for awhile, you just haven’t noticed. The Penguins playoff series was in 2018. If anything fans are more jaded now. This franchise has nothing to sell anymore.

Well, those tens of millions add up. And the losses probably extend to operations outside the Flyers part of Comcast-Spectator. Arena losses from merchandise sales, tv advertising losses, Comcast subscription losses.

Why undertake the rounding error if you don't need to?

Charlie O'Connor said that hiring of Torchetti is a very strong indication that CF stays. I also felt the Presser suggested he stays. As well as the Bobby Clarke venting. And the fact that they have beefed up their personnel, all hired by CF. And the talk about Covid, injuries and so on.

I would be really shocked if he goes.

- PT21

If they cared about winning the Cup, they would bite the bullet, go full on rebuild, and try to win it. To heck with the temporary rounding error. Since they don't care (imho) they'll do just enough to minimize the financial impact and muddle on.

Imagine if this team can’t bring in Gaudreau in the offseason. Then what are they selling? The Dave Scott core of Ellis, Hayes and Couturier, the LTIR allstars.

Last thread Hello Its Me mentioned the Rizzo Rink
I have told this before but it bears repeating

I experienced it for a 6 game late season as an add-on to regular playing elsewhere, playing with friends who were from South Philly originally and had moved on in life. I think a lot of them were Drexel grads and played in a team called the Kings in the late 70's or early 80s.
Anyhow a ref started throwing out our players for no reason in the one game playoff first round. Turned out he fixed the game as he was offered a spot on the team that won ( beating our team in the fixed game)
The fing lowest of the low, fixing a game in a stupid public rink playoff game.
They were good enough to win without it, sad part.
South Philly/Rizzo Rink/ Puke
Also heard horror stories about Tarken rink, violence, drugs etc..never went there.

Flyers midseason Grades...

https://theathletic.com/3...ad-oconnors-observations/

Some highlights:

MVP: Claude Giroux
this season, he’s been producing these results largely at center, when the position he’s more comfortable at these days is on the wing. No matter — he’ll still drive play at even strength somewhere between the 89th percentile (in terms of expected goal differential) and 97th percentile (in raw shot differential) for forwards, produce at a 30-goal/70-point pace over 82 games, all while taking on even tougher competition than usual due to the Flyers’ total lack of bottom-six forward depth in the wake of all of their injuries.

Biggest disappointment (non-injury related): Keith Yandle
Analytically, there’s a case to be made he’s been the worst even strength defenseman in the NHL. Evolving-Hockey’s RAPM model — which aims to isolate a player’s individual impact on play-driving from all other factors — grades Yandle out as having a -0.445 impact on his team’s expected goal differential when he’s skated — the lowest such mark in the league this year. Yandle’s raw xG percentage is also a league low 37.98 percent, and that’s in spite of facing lots of third/fourth line competition and receiving nearly double the offensive zone starts (100) as defensive zone ones (55). The coaching staff has tried to shelter Yandle, and he’s still getting crushed.

Best defenseman: Travis Sanheim
First, he’s been the team’s best five-on-five defenseman by far, and the only one even close to a 50 percent share in goal differential (48.91 percent), expected goal differential (49.79 percent) and shot attempt differential (48.40 percent). In fact, his RAPM impact on xG (+0.189) has him way up in the 91st percentile among NHL defensemen this season. He has just three fewer points than Ivan Provorov, who averages 1:19 more minutes per game. And it’s been his pair with Rasmus Ristolainen that has been the one consistently steady duo this season for Philadelphia. One certainly could argue that Ristolainen deserves the lion’s share of the credit for that, but know that both advanced metrics and basic stats (Sanheim is a -1 by plus/minus, Ristolainen is a -12) tell a different tale — that it’s most likely Sanheim carrying the load.

Discuss. Much better subject than parking in Philadelphia.

Not in the 80's. That's false. That was once a nice area. Last 25 years well not so much.

Rizzo had some nice fights.

Scanlon still going strong!!!

Imagine those who are female doging about the deal Couturier just signed at 29, after Gaudreau signs one for probably 2 million aav more per season at 29?

Heads will explode. And well they should.

What fan revolt:

Before Covid

16-17: 5th in average # of attendance in league
17-18: 3rd
18-19: 3rd

All around the 99% mark.

Now, assume a rebuild. 4 years, fans fall to say 80% each year during rebuild. That's a 20% drop each year, for a total of 80% across 4 years.

Now suppose rebuild works. 1% more regular season revenue compared to bubble team level of 99%. Plus a few more home playoff games. Lets add in another 1% for that for a total of 2%.

It will take Comcast 40 years of playoff contention to make up that 80% loss. And that is if rebuild works.

JG will not be coming to the Flyers unless a very severe overpay. There are never ever any credible rumors of him even wanting to play for the flyers. All Eklund.

He is a smart man, he will stay away very easily.

No idea what Brauns "metrics" look like. Overall he has been the most consistent imo.

No argument for CC. Guess Hart would be next

Most knew Yandle sucked so he doesn't deserve that. Maybe TK JVR or Ivan

Hence why I stated he would have to be getting 9 plus aav for a good long while.

I hope that doesn't happen.

Those are sold tickets not the actual fans in the seats. The playoffs games against the Penguins were sold out but nobody showed up. The test will be next year since COVID will be over and they have to sell Fletcher back to the season ticket holders after two straight seasons out of the playoffs.

JVR

Biggest advanced stat bust: James van Riemsdyk
To be clear — this category isn’t for the Flyers skater with the worst advanced metrics on the team. Yandle is the runaway winner, with Zack MacEwen, Nate Thompson and Kevin Hayes right there, too.......
In 2021-22, however, he’s been one of the worst play-driving players on the team.

To be blunt, JvR this season has actually been the player that his detractors have long (unfairly) argued that he was: a liability when not scoring goals. His -0.177 xG RAPM impact puts him in the 11th percentile among regular NHL forwards, and he’s even worse in terms of his impact on actual goal differential (9th percentile). Not only that, he’s not scoring nearly enough goals personally to make up for it — 10 in 44 games paces out to a mere 19 tallies over 82 contests, which would be his least efficient goal scoring year since his final season in Philadelphia — the first go-around.

Given the sheer number of injuries that struck the Flyers this season, they really needed the van Riemsdyk from the first half of 2020-21, when he was one of the most effective players on the team. They’ve instead received the opposite.
