Say that in Detroit...
 - washedup20
He did play in multiple playoff games in Detroit.. It's not like they finished dead last every year
If Jack took the Buffalo sabres to one playoff series none of this conversation would be happening |

Nope, it's that hes nothing like Matthew Stafford who just took his team to the Super Bowl. There was a foolish person here who said Jack's going to be the next Matthew Stafford, which simply is impossible because Matthew Stafford is obviously a leader who makes people around him better.
Edit: then, There were other posters who made this laughable statement that Jack is clearly a dominant hockey player who had no help. We obviously must have different definitions of dominant. - lacaprup
not sure I want to jump in on this one.
However, if not Stafford... maybe OBJ.

so what argument do you want me to present you with that completely destorys you.
A) Matt Staffords previous 12 year career.
or
B) It took Matt Stafford requesting out of Detroit and being traded to get to a superbowl.
Im fine with either one, you just have to let me know. |

While the term "help" can certainly be subjective, the fact that Tim and Jason both failed to not only build a competent team around Jack, but to also fail to bring in a decent (frank)ing coach can't be ignored. Darcy bombed years worth of drafting and Tim sold everything that was halfway (frank)ing decent. I mean for Christ's sake look at the 17-18 opening night roster. God. |

It's definitely the 18-24 year old hockey players fault the Sabres organization is and has been a joke for over 12 years, specifically 2 of them.

You tell me you're trying to win by trotting out Eichel, O'Reilly, Kane and Reinhart, but you also put Seth Griffith, Kyle Criscuolo, Hudson Fasching, Jacob Josefson, Matt Tennyson, Benoit Pouliot, the corpses of Matt Moulson and Josh Gorges, Scott Wilson and Nate Bowl-Yew.
(frank) off with that. (frank). Off. |

Did you see what an awful person OBJ was last night?
Consoling an obviously distraught Deebo Samuel.
OBJ by all accounts from every player I have heard is a great teammate.
He wanted out of a terrible situation in Cleveland where stop me if you've heard this before "Good player is not being put in position to win" |

I don't like what Jack did but I don't blame him one iota for doing it.

The only really bad thing OBJ has done were the Giants antics. They were stupid, but not terrible. He put the Giants in a bad spot though. |

A) did MS or did he not play in playoff games with DET? I believe he led Detroit to a 10 and 6 record and a playoff berth in his rookie season. What the actual (frank) about Jack is similar?

Please dont put words in my mouth. "Jack was not dominant. Jack was overpaid." Does not in any way equate to it's all his fault.

You're arguing Jack didn't do anything with the Sabres, thats why he can't be compared to Stafford. The Sabres managed to build horrible teams on a yearly basis while holding the rights to a top 5 center in the league and its his fault they didnt make it to the playoffs. Jack had the Sabres 1 point away from the playoffs in Montreal when the pandemic shut the league down. 4 years vs 12 years, when he shines in Vegas it will be a treat for all hockey fans to enjoy.

One point away from 24th place in an expanded tournament.... still missed though.
The guy was a PP/G, not 200-foot center on a bad team. Whoppie doo. I saw Derek Roy. I remain unimpressed by Jack Eichle.

more often then not, Eichel was not even a top 5 center in our division, let alone the entire NHL |

I think this is a scenario where both can be true. The top-end talent should have got you into the playoffs in a league where more than 50% of teams make it at some point, even if by accident. At the same time, you can't put out a roster like that and say "we're serious about winning a Stanley Cup" with a straight face. There were issues with this team, and it wasn't just "the bottom six". |
