Plenty of UFA options at forward this coming offseason.
The question for me, more so than would any be open to signing with the Sabres is, are the Sabres actually going to try and be a real team next season?
 - kingcong39
A lot of these players are old and I want no part of
Malkin and giroux to name a couple of them

How about Jiricek?
Some have him ranked higher, big physical player perfect for Dahlin - IonSabres
He’s a good player too.
Unfortunate injury, maybe he can slide far enough in the first round that we can move up for him if they go forward with the first pick |

Does anyone return to the lineup tonight? Have we lost anyone from last night? |

Was it ACL, or am I thinking of another guy? |

Doubt they do a morning skate, so it will be a while before we get any news.

His play without the puck needs improving a good bit.
Ideally you need an elite talent as your 1C. - kingcong39
Ideally yes, but with potentially icing two elite defensemen in the playoffs that can play 28+ minutes a night each, you might be able to get by with three 1/2 non elite centers.

I could do without Olofsson.
I like Asplund more than others but he’s also replaceable.
The Sabres have depth in spades, gotta find the 1C, 1RHD, and a goalie. UPL looks like a backup. Levi/Portillo are still years away - Pegullaville
Depth, the Sabres have no depth, they have a lot of similar style players. They need to define roles and fill them before depth can even begin.
Butcher played LW last night Pegs, there is no real depth in this organization yet.

It was one of the ligaments. All I know is he got the surgery and was proclaimed out for 2-3 months.

You make your moves after next year. Good players in drafts this year. Another top 10 pick next draft (we should naturally improve)
In 2023-24 season you lose Okposo, only have one bad contract in skinner and your young guys now have experience. You are ready for a breakout and will have prospects maturing every year for the foreseeable future - Fattony1187
I can't imagine any of those guys coming to Buffalo unless they are highly overpaid. Unless they're willing to come on a 2 or 3 year deal, it's going to backfire by the time the sabres are actually decent.

Well that's it, the Sabres are gonna have to spend like 20m just to get to the floor next year, even more the year after. |

Injuries and Covid played a huge part of that though to be fair.
Hypothetical lineup with everyone healthy next year:
Krebs-Cozens-Tuch
Skinner-Tage-Quinn
Peterka-Mitts-Okposo
Girgensons-______-Asplund
Dahlin-_____
Samuelsson-Joker
Power-______
______
UPL
That’s with even leaving off Olofsson who very well could still be here although I’d like to move him for draft capital.

Butcher is out. Tage was limping and not feeling great. So I’m sure he’s a game time decision
Who was the last one? Anderson in the last 2 minutes was fighting something injury wise it seemed |

I see two spots to address through trade or free agency. I'd pay a lot for a RD to play with Dahlin. There doesn't seem to be any great candidates in FA, I'd be looking for a Vlassic type(in his prime) over a Klingberg type and willing to overpay in a trade for the right guy. Those late 1st's, Olofsson, Asplund would all be in play.

That roster will not compete, its to similar to this year just swapping cheap junk with cheap rookies. You're probably right as they want a top draft pick next year but this doesn't fill any team needs just plays out existing contracts.
Too soft of a team, my concern is Dahlin will want out with this sit and wait approach.

There is no way they don’t try and make a splash at a half way decent player via trade or free agency. |

Homie brought up center Trockek who'd cost Buffalo in the $5 m range and I'd throw $4-5m to goalie Pavel Francouz on a three-year deal |

Donnie’s insistence of playing Tage with Tuch may throw a wrench in that but I agree with your lineup as well.
The way I see it we have two dominant duos.
_____-Cozens/Tuch
Skinner-Tage-______
Krebs, Quinn, Peterka, Mitts, Okposo, Olofsson, Girgensons, Asplund can fit in where they may. |

Think someone brought him up, think Pach's was the one. What about Justin Braun |

Braun is solid but will be 35 in two weeks, he'd be a great two year stop gap if they can't find a long term solution.

They definitely could.
I wouldn’t dare move our pick but if someone in their young to mid twenties comes available that fits our team now and in the future I definitely put the VGK/FLA firsts in play.

Sabres have 4 centers who's floor projects as a Trochek level player, you want to pay him $5-$6m the last few years of a 6 year contract?

Im not really sure if there are moves we can make to put us in the playoffs next year.
I see us having a season like Detroit is having this year. |

Agreed. Let the young guys continue to develop. They all seem to have outgrown the AHL and you can't bury them with 4th line minutes and no special teams time if you want that development to continue. With competent goaltending next season, the 8th to 13th pick will be coming the sabres way.

It’s why you just stay the course. Overpay a few FA on one year deals next year to hit the cap then be ready to roll in 2023-24 with best cap in the league and all our young players ready to break out and our draft picks last year and this year hitting Rochester to develop or fill in for depth |
