Well said and I could not agree more. I suspect half the accusations may be false and people are too eager to jump on the band wagon to destroy him for whatever reason. Rumors are sadly enough to end careers or destroy people's lives. I know Evander is not a model citizen but not everything is true I am sure. The bottom line is everyone deserves a chance to change even if it takes a few attempts. All the best to Evander and hope he realizes some of his choices, like his ex wife have been poor choices. He will resurrect his career in Edmonton because he is one hell of a gifted hockey players and the Oilers are a perfect fit. Who would not love to play with two of the best in the game. If Kane blows this opportunity I would be surprised.

In his first partial season with SJ he was a model citizen and his teammates and coaches loved him and advocated that he be re-signed. Then, after he signed the seven year deal, he turned back into his old self, late for meetings, criticizing the coaching staff/offensive structure, publicly wondering why he didn't have the puck more. Near term he'll inject scoring into the Oilers and we'll be told by the Oilers players what a great teammate he is. If he's there beyond this season, all bets are off.

meh.

doesn't move the needle much in terms of Edmonton's overall issues. Yes, he will help the offense, but Edmonton is still a tire fire and Kane doesn't fix that.

Much like Kassian needed a restart in EDM from MTL the Kane situation should be similar and we know Kane is a better overall player. If the room embraces him for a second chance and the support of McD and Drai he'll go to war for those guys. Good signing IMO I wish he was in Van.

How about straight up doctoring a fake Vaccination record? International travel with Covid during a pandemic? Declaring bankruptcy while holding a contract for $7m dollars a year?

Piece of poop. Period. I'm sure the Oilers will look back and regret this. All while wasting another year of McDavid's career while they are at it.

Who knows? That's why I wrote all bets are off. He's an extremely useful hockey player when his head is screwed on right. A pure scorer who plays defense and even PK and plays with an edge. He'll very likely look pretty glittering playing with 97 and 29. Plus they're paying peanuts for him and gave up no assets to get him.

does Kane make the Oilers better on the Ice. Yup. Power forward who can hit, skate, score and drop the mitts (and win) is rare. However he overstays his welcome very fast. He has been launched from the PEG, Buffalo, San Jose all within the last 3 years and all for selfish reasons.

its simple really, good player, but a franking TOOL BAG.........

before spewing "Facts" do some research

Kane played the following years:

Atlanta/Winnipeg 2009/2010 - 2014/2015
Buffalo 2015/2016 - 2017/2018
San Jose 2017/2018 - 2020-2021

How many "restarts" did get Kassian have?

By last count Kane has been booted from 3 teams. Not sure he will ever "get it".

no...my take away is that you dont like him as a person even though you dont even know him.

is this move good for the Oilers? Only time will tell. much like the Kassian situation. He finally admitted he needed help and got the help. Let's hope the same goes for Kane.

Fantastic signing for the Oilers if they don't care about the PR hit and don't resign him. Don't forget, the Sharks loved him when they brought him in mid-season, enough to sign him to a huge extension.

If they manage to sort their team out and start playing like they were at the beginning of the year, they're as strong as Vegas and probably a bit above Calgary in the Pacific.

So declaring bankruptcy is now a crime?

When does Nicolas Cage go to jail?

Nowhere did I see it was reported he travelled with covid and even if he did it happens all the time. We aren't living in communist Stalin USSR are we?

going out on a limb here with this prediction :

Edmonton doesn't win the cup this year. Kane or no Kane.

From a strictly hockey point of view I think this addition improves the Oilers. Antics aside, Kane is a very good hockey player. Looking at it from just hockey he is going to improve this team. If I am to venture an insane guess I am gonna say Edmonton actually goes on a tear with him.

I think a player like McDavid wants to win enough that he is willing to try half a season with someone who could/should be a top player in the league. The Oilers needed to add a bit of spark and flame to their team. Admittedly they decided to throw in a keg of dynamite instead of spark with Kane, but spark he will provide. He will be playing for contract and I think he is going to replicate the behavior that saw the reviews from his AHL teammates.

Kassian was given m ore than enough leeway in both Van and Mtl but when rock bottom hit EDM took the risk. It may be three teams for Kane but that might be what it takes. As with Kassian...I'm sure it's been made clear to him this is the final shot.

What leeway was Kassian given in Montreal? Got into an accident and was traded for Ben Scrivens before ever playing a game for them. They traded him for character flaws but drafted Mailloux.

$100 on the Oil to win the cup pays $4,100. Worth a long shot I think.
- lacaprup

The Kane signing is a great move and If they can somehow snag a goalie there might be a few very happy people who took that bet. Not likely but the hockey gods can be a funny bunch.

Nowhere? Uhhh, it was widely reported. He tested positive for Covid while in the AHL with the Barracuda on 12/21. He then flew home to Vancouver 12/29 while still in the AHL Covid protocol. He did not have team or medical approval to travel home.

The Barracuda expected him back on 12/31 and he remained in Canada until 1/6.

Personally, I loved watching him play here in SJ and I wish him all the best. Can't wait for the Valentines day massacre as the Oil visit SJ Feb 14th and I'm sure there will be a lot of hitting and bad blood with guys still in the SJ room that actively wanted him out last summer (also widely reported in the press) after he was constantly late to trainings last season and the coaching staff didn't hold him responsible.

I am hoping someone runs him and no Oilers come to his defense. What a statement by the players to management and ownership would that be?
