Yes, and I think Fletcher talked about this on Wednesday when he stated though this team needs top-end talent they also need more size and physicality. That statement points directly to players like JVR and Sanheim who have size but don't use it.
- jd250

Speaking of big physical players who know how to use their size, why haven't we heard anything about Morin. It seems like he has disappeared from the radar completely.

I see that Carchidi reported that he is out for the rest of the season.

I guess its safe to say his career is over? I feel really bad for that kid.

The struggles of the 3rd pair are not because of York, there squarely on the shoulders of his should be scratched partner, Yandsy.

It truly sucks. He seems like a great kid, shame his body has betrayed him.

Yes, it went from oh I just had a minor procedure to clean up some stuff to gone for the season. Yes I think a scouting job is in his immediate future. Sad.

From the "You cant make this poop up" file.

10. Shootout practice?
When the full group was able to hit the ice Sunday, they closed out practice by addressing a lost-standing bugaboo. That’s right — the Flyers actually practiced the shootout.

In a knockout style end-of-practice competition, it came down to Oskar Lindblom and James van Riemsdyk, both of whom scored on their first two attempts while every other player was stymied at least once (Scott Laughton, Jackson Cates, Travis Konecny, Max Willman, Rasmus Ristolainen, Travis Sanheim and Giroux all at least made it past round 1). But after four additional rapid-fire rounds between Lindblom and JvR, neither could score another goal, ending the competition in a draw. Yep, even in practice, no Flyers player could win a shootout.

Hi Bill, I was actually thinking the same thing when I saw the lineup you posted. I would like to see Frost playing with TK and JVR just so we can put to rest this debate about whether Frost's problems are due to unskilled line mates or his own play. I feel even on the line he is on now, with Mayhew and Willman, Frost is not the best Flyers' player on the ice most shifts, and that concerns me. As far as Allison goes, can we even count on him given his injury history? I feel bad for the kid but its doesn't look good for him, I mean how many injuries can one player take at such a young age?
- jd250

I don't think you'd learn anything about Frost by "promoting" him to play with the corpse of JVR, and a struggling TK. Yes, they're more skilled options than Mayhew & Willman but they're both ice cold right now. IMO playing Frost with those two right now would actually be putting even more pressure on him. I like Bill's proposal, but you can't count on Allison for anything right now. If they want to see Frost with a proven NHL finisher, I'd try

Lindblom - G - TK
Mayhew - Frost - Atkinson
JVR - Laughton - Willman

Frost gets to play with Atkinson, and remains with Mayhew to keep that glimmer of a bright spot going.

It's actually a good thing that Ryan Ellis can't play, because if he was healthy the Flyers would have to send Cam York to the AHL in order to keep Yandle's streak going.

Meltzer said in a previous blog that Chris Stewart was no longer with the Organization. He didn't indicate why he wasn't. Nothing on the internet anywhere about it. Another fantastic hire. Fletcher is the Wizard's tits.

Scott Wheeler of the athletic is ranking every team based on prospects, so far he is at team number 14, and hasn't hit the flyers yet, so he ranks us at least top 13 compared to other teams. Maybe it isn't as bad as we are thinking it is?? I don't follow other teams so not very easy for me to compare. I just don't see the top end talent. Curious to see where he ranks us.

They should bring Brassard back if he's healthy and then try to trade him.

Farabee, Couturier, and Brown all skated today, so they might not be far away from returning.

I am too. I only worry about the cap circumvention aspect if they use LTIR to stash them when they can actually physically play. Its not a big worry, but they had better be injured.

As of this moment we have over $11 million on IR and over $10.5 million in LTIR.

I personally don’t see the point in sitting Yandle at this point. So we sit Yandle on a team that’s already out of the playoffs, than what? Let young players get “experience” on a non-competitive team? Seeler has been getting “experience” all year.
- SuperSchennBros

YES!

If they're out of the playoffs, there's no other expectation for the young players other than to sharpen their skills and work on their deficiencies while playing at the highest level against some of the toughest competitors they'll be facing throughout their careers.

In other words, they'll be gaining experience. And valuable experience at that!

This team makeup reminds of the pre Crosby Penguins......without the drafting of Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Fleury.. a lot of AHL players and marginal players on ice for Lemieux to work off the Pens debts..and tanking
I guess you could say Hart= Fleury in 2003-04.Look at that roster...

That's pretty funny. What's funnier is "practicing' the shootout is everybody going until they get stopped... which for most of the team means one and done lol.

I recall seeing recently that Bill also confirmed Morin is done for the season, either in his blog or in the respective comments section.

I doubt anyone in the rest of the league cares who the Flyers have on LTIR. It's not like they are using it to get an advantage in the playoffs.
