Updates from beat reporters:

* Connolly recalled from Rockford.

* T Johnson at least a month away from being eligible to play again.

* Stillman out 2-3 weeks.

* Khaira still out (due to back spasms, I believe).

* Dach will play 2C while Lafferty will play 3C which bumps Borgstrom to 4LW.

Borgstrom as 4LW?

King's whipping boy just like JC had strome was his whipping boy. See nothing has changed all that much as far as coaching.

This is pure idiocy. I usually like most of what you post here PE. It gives some fun color to the board. However, this kind of poop is disgusting in my eyes.

Compare the Hall hit vs Veleno hit. Hall hit McKinnon shoulder to chest, and Mc's stick actually was the one that made contact to his face. Veleno saw Toews numbers the entire time. Now, because this is the NHL, of course they butchered both plays. (But you saw my post about the Det/Chi game, Bettman can't be happy that Detroit couldn't win that game even though they handed it to them).

My thought is that this league needs an event to shine the light on how awful not only the officiating is, but the league in general. And taking a Kadri out will not do it (in fact the NHL would probably be happy that they did not have to do anything to have him sit some games).

I have faith it'll work out, i mean we went from Murphy being the best dman on this team and in one year we have 2 guys definitely better than him. I would like to see more of Galvas but i get it let him get more seasoning and become stronger in the AHL, like Reichel, Slavin and others.

I'm generally optimistic about the situation while realizing it will take a while. Ogi is quite upset about the Jones trade (as is his right). I was merely stating that if he is going to hold that view, he's going to be like that for a while as I don't see Jones going anywhere unless he asks.

Strome was in King's doghouse for a while as well. He's seemed to have played his way out of it. I'm sure King is communicating to Borgstrom what he needs to do to improve. It's on him to do so.

As a coach, if a player isn't executing his assignments on the ice, you take time away from him... regardless of how much talent the fanbase thinks he has.

Your thought is wrong. There have been numerous brutal plays, and incidents that "should" have changed something which haven't. Either get used to it or stop watching.

Calling for anyone to intentionally injure someone else (and to top it off be compensated for it) is pure evil (IMO).

I didn't see the penalty that was called but I assume it was for interference as McKinnon didn't have the puck on his stick. Same call was made in the Hawks/Red Wings game

I can't wait until the Hawks are in a position where they are faced with the possibility of having to get rid of a really good player because of Jones' contract (or any other bloated contract). That will be years from now.

It was an interference call but it wasn’t interference. Hall hit him as MacKinnon dishes off the puck. It’s a case of a guy lying on the ice in a pool of blood and the refs making a call for that reason.

Yes the original call was a major for interference

Yep, them are important.

The more burning issue for me - in a timing, rather than a heartburn sense - is finding out the identity of the non-hockey person who will run the hockey operations.

Well at least it was reviewable, which it wasn't in the playoffs when they blew the Pavelski score. What is weird is they could not rescind the penalty completely, because they cannot review whether the a penalty is the right call, but whether it could be reduced as to a major to minor penalty.

Where did you see that was the original call? I didn’t see the ref indicate that and the call from the Arena announcer said only there is a five minute penalty under review?

I was watching this on the NHL Network live look-in when it happened. After the original call, the refs reviewed it. Announcer said that the rule stipulated that because they originally called a major, it could only be downgraded to a 2 min. minor, they could not complete wash out the penalty. I haven't looked it up, but does anyone know if that's the correct interpretation?
