Tbh now that I’m post brain surgery lighting isn’t bugging me anymore so I look forward to eventually seeing some of the bands in person (once the covid lockdowns are done) and just flat out buying the cds and have them signed…. Always worth the extra few bucks to do that 👍 |

If Rogan was forced or dropped from the service as a result of Young's request, he would be a victim as well his listener-base.
I suspect Neil Young actually wanted off of Spotify (he's been at odds with them before) and he thought he'd fire a shot off the bow of Spotify's biggest (and most controversial) tenant upon his exit. I'm sure Joe was really sweating bullets there.
In principle, Young's ultimatum is an attempt at some egregious censorship bs. Glad Spotify didn't cave to the cancel demand, dumped Young's catalog (per his request), and continued to support Rogan. We can, of course, argue whether they would have done so with a lesser act. 🤷
What's actually hilarious is how much frothing at the mouth Rogan has unintentionally inspired from his detractors. But hey, this is the ideological puritanical world we live in now: we must destroy / minimize those who dissent from our manifesto. 👌 - mjones242
Spotify made the commercial decision that Neil and everyone else knew they’d make. Selling controversy is big money and they went with the big money. Young told them they needed a misinformation policy like other big social media platforms. He had already come to terms with the issues about the quality of the sound and is staying on other streaming services that are far below what he would like.
To be clear, none of this is about ideological purity or politics. Young has taken some weird political stands - he liked Reagan. This is about putting out dangerous misinformation, the same thing that got Trump kicked off Twitter.

Yeah finding songs on either app is pretty easy… as I said Apple is a bit better sounding and Spotify is more general.
I’m not against either or but I do prefer Apple. - Dozzer
I just started in Spotify because it wasn’t Apple and built up playlists and things so became invested in that service. Too bad. I’ll just switch to Apple |

I think what I really like about Apple is pick just one song and it will keep playing things defined as similar. Bang on? No but close? Yup.
They also have numerous playlists already made defined under style.
And you can play greatest hits as well, and make your own playlists.
I’ve always been an iPhone guy so it kinda just made sense for me to roll with it |

Yeah, Spotify had that too. I’m sure they’re very similar. I just threw it in when I got Sonos set up in the house |

Of course he knew it which makes the victimization of Rogan hilarious. I’m the victim. I have to to another service to get access to the music I want and now I lose all my exquisite playlists. - Canada Cup
Why would Rogan be the victim? Rogan was literally minding his own having interesting people on his podcast like he always has. It was a small, fringe group of liberal "doctors", hacktivists and then neil old who got bent out of shape and threw a temper tantrum.
He went woke and now he's going broke, that's the way of the road baby.
Aw. So sad. Lesson learnt though I'm sure. |

Mine definitely are… I’ve had non stop tinnitus since I was about 20 due to all the live music I played without hearing protection of any kind - Dozzer
Yeah, musicians usually have the hearing of an old man lol...if there's a lot of background noise like in a bar or crowded room, I'm reading lips to understand people, it gets washed out. Probably if I really listened to lossless music on fine speakers I'd notice, but I'm not as attuned to sound quality as some.
I do like a sense of 3D space in a recording, I can feel that from my vinyl which also seems to depend on the production. Music production feels less 3D in the last couple decades, but I don't how true that is. |

It's not destroying Rogan, he's talking nonsense and he's getting called out for it.
Aaron Rodgers played the same violin about 'the woke mob` when all that was actually happening was he was being called out on reckless, idiotic words and actions. |

The following Jacobin post articulates exactly what's wrong with the approach to censor "dangerous misinformation" and how Rogan's own contributions pale in comparison to bureaucrats during this pandemic:

A snippet that pretty much sums up my stance:
As always, censorship and similarly heavy-handed measures are the desperate resort of someone who refuses or has simply given up on tackling the root causes of a problem. The liberal calls for internet censorship as a means for dealing with the virus has been a depressing staple of the US pandemic response. Meanwhile, the structural factors that keep people unvaccinated and mistrustful of public health — a private insurance-based health care system, a lack of money and time, decades of neoliberal policy — go largely unmentioned. Just as well, otherwise people might actually start demanding some serious changes to the US economy.
If Spotify booted Rogan and the US government banished him to the Arctic, you would still get COVID misinformation and mistrust, because of both these factors and the messaging failure that’s been endemic to US institutions throughout these confusing, frustrating two years. Demand that Rogan be censored if you like, as illiberal as that is. But let’s not pretend it’s a solution.
Also, as an aside, you're exaggerating Neil Young "liking" Reagan. He admitted to liking some things that Reagan had stated at the beginning of his term, but that narrative was overblown AF. It's typical bs - if you dare say that someone controversial isn't 100% bad you're painted as a supporter.
Neil Young was not a Reagan fanboy. |

There's something about this that feels like . . . censorship. I mean, I don't like Joe Rogan, I wouldn't listen to his podcast. I'm a grown-up. I know what I like and what I don't. Most of us can also smell bs a mile away and either avoid it, or confirm it if it feels too weird (did you know that a Shih Tzu's eyes can just randomly pop out? I didn't, but it's true. How are those dogs still around? . . .anyway). It should be up to the broadcaster to have some form of warning up front - something as simple as "These are opinions and may not be factually accurate, we don't advocate nor approve of anything said." . . .then let them go ahead and broadcast their garbage.
Anything that advocates hate or violence has no place, obviously (which is really why Trump should have been removed from Twitter), but just because people are misinformed, wrong, or spreading this information isn't something that can effectively or reliable controlled anyway. |

The Queen Is Dead I must have listened to a thousand times. And everybody loves Full Moon Fever.
A lot of seminal hardcore punk in the 80s too, like Black Flag and Dead Kennedys.
Siouxsie and The Banshees and The Cars...The Cure...a lot of good 80s stuff, even though it was in many ways not the greatest cultural decade by any means 😬 |

I actually quite agree with the points about economic structural issues not bring addressed. I think the far left focus on pronouns and such is a problem.
The culture wars between left and right are (frank)ed on both sides.
However, it bears repeating that censorship is about the state restricting expression. It doesn't apply to private business. If Rogan was removed from Spotify, Twitter and so on, by definition that is not censorship. That would be private property rights bring exercised by business owners. That's the market, not censorship. |
