To stick with hockey, cuz I just can't deal with all this BS anti vaxx and anti mandate poop as I sit here with a vax scar on my left shoulder since birth,
Did any one see Zegras' goal last night? That kid is going to be pretty special I think.
Also, I hope Dubas loads up as much as he can on D at the TDL. IMO, it's the only thing besides a two goalie collapse that will kill the Leafs in the playoffs. Forward depth feels so much better this year. |

It does raise an interesting question, as per this photo that was taken moments ago in Ottawa:
What message do you think this guy is trying to convey with his U.S. Confederate flag? |

Note: I go kinda old man ranty in this, and it's not directed at you, Cushie.
So here's the thing:
People need to cut all elected politicians - from across the political spectrum - some slack on all of the policies implemented throughout COVID.
We didn't know it was coming. Sure, we had some emergency plans, but you don't know how they are going to work until you implement them. Most importantly, you don't know how the public will react, which is going to be the determinant in if your plans are successful or not.
Perfect is the enemy of good.
The feds' covid tracker software on our phones was an excellent plan - but nobody typed in their info, so it turned out to be a terrible plan.
Ford spend about $10M on bracelet tracer thingies, that never got off the ground. Some people are roasting him, but I'm not going to be upset that they tried something.
And in the case of municipalities, I do think there should be some flexibility for places that are harder hit than others. Sometime ago (it's all a blur), Toronto was a poopshow, and Kingston had no cases. It didn't make sense for Kingston to be locked down (until it really made sense for Kingston to be locked down).
We need to stop demonizing politicians. Feel free to hate the policies, but FFS, MPs in Ottawa have been warned by the RCMP that the Freedum Convoy is doxing them, planning to harass their offices and homes. Idiot protesters are outside Premier Ford's home.
You don't like politicians? Keep harassing them, until nobody competent wants the job anymore.
Trust me, you don't want to go there.
- Atomic Wedgie
No offense taken here and I hope you take none to my reply!
I think both our national and provincial pandemic plan sucks and this is the crux of the issue or at least a big part of it. Pandemic plans are imperfect but I've heard from both levels of gov't that because this is a new disease it's challenging and tough to react or know what to do etc....sorry but to me that's BS. I've helped write pandemic plans and we didn't name the disease in any of them.
Feels to me like there was way too much concern from politicians about ensuring they didn't lose support of the public and/or big business and that has had far too much influence on decision making - look at all the flip flopping we have and continue to see.
I saw some good decisions made by politicians in this crisis but at least as many if not more bad ones so I won't let anyone off the hook including the opposition parties who have essentially refused to try and work together with governments and instead used this as a disgusting way to do nothing more than attack governments in power both provincially and federally.
Lost of questionable decisions were made pre and during the pandemic and continue to be made by governments and I hope people remember them when elections happen again but for me it's often just a feeling of 'who is the least terrible' when I vote.
You mentioned the federal COVID tracker - seems it didn't matter since government decided privacy be dammed we will just track people's phones without consent anyhow - that's some scary poop!
I'm not saying municipalities shouldn't have flexibility at all - it makes sense that if there is a huge spike in one area to deal with that area differently but it's got to be fact based and not opinion based. One Doctor who decides they don't agree with provincially imposed restrictions without factual and geographical evidence why (and geographical in the area they are responsible for) shouldn't allow them to impose their own restrictions - at least not in my opinion.
Last thing - you said this: You don't like politicians? Keep harassing them, until nobody competent wants the job anymore I'll inject some humor and be a smart alec and say "there are no component ones now!".
Thanks for replying and listening. |

Any time you talk about protesting mandates there will be people like this.
I don't agree with all the mandates, and you would never see me supporting that guy in the picture waiving his confederate flag.
Acknowledge him yes, but ignorant to tag that guy with people who don't fully believe in the mandates. |

We’re all tired of the pandemic and the restrictions. I have questions about their continued effectiveness or at least the trade offs against the cost. Whining about freedom though moves things out of a debate about the effectiveness of restrictions and into a discussion about the primacy of my individual rights over the collective good. I don’t have any time for that bullpoop - Canada Cup
Quite frankly, I'm out of patience with the restrictions.
I'm triple-vaxxed, and I had the 'vid a month ago.
There's no valid reason why I can't go to my local bar and have a pop or two.
There's no valid reason why I can't go to a full capacity Leafs game.
It's time to up the restrictions on those who refuse to protect themselves, and let the rest of us get back to life.
It's now the same neighbourhood of risk to me (and the healthcare system) as the flu. And yes, I got my flu shot this year. |

There are a lot of young kids coming up who have been practicing that move and will be just as slick as Zegras is at.
I wonder if there won't be a rule that prohibits that type of goal at some point in the future. I think it's flashy and cool . . . I think maybe it's the traditionalist in me, or perhaps the former goalie in me . . . I think I don't like it. I don't know. I'm impressed when I see it - I was far more impressed by that goal he and Milano combined for - but if they made it illegal, I don't think I'd be opposed. That said, it's easy enough to defend against - just don't cheat off your post, or have your defensemen take away their time because it's hard to snag and lift the puck when you're moving.

I don't want you to think I was ignoring that quotient of the group. You're absolutely right that there's a bunch of racists and hate mongering that is behind the organization of this. There are also a lot of people supporting the convoy, while not actively participating, because they have their own misguided views on what it stands for.
The beauty of using the word "Freedom" is that it's vague enough to mean something to everyone. Almost every racist or hate group uses the word Freedom in some form, so I don't think most of us are fooled by it. But there are people who I sincerely believe are not hate filled or racists, but they are hurting, and they are identifying with this message because there are parts of it that speak to them. There are people who are afraid and uncertain and parts of this message resonate with them. There are people who are frustrated and tired by the pandemic and part of this message resonate with them. So it's a thing because it's got all of these bits of messages sticking to it - but the underlying message of this shouldn't be ignored - it's organized by hate groups.
My points were merely that there are a number of people identified on the right and supporting this that deserve to be a part of the political discourse. Their message should be heard and addressed before they continue their swing further right into the crazy zone. - Monkeypunk
This 'protest' is not about "freedoms in our society".
The unifying thing that links all of these people is entitlement.
Big, ugly, me-first, entitlement. |

I understand your point but I think hockey needs to be flashier. The hits, the fights and the highlight reel goals are what finds a way to non-hockey viewers IMO.
I'm a traditionalist when it comes to the physical side of the game and a little more non-traditional when it comes to slick plays and showing personality.
I want real interview answers and real people with a personality playing a bad ass game with some trick shots!
My condolences on you being a goalchie crazy (frank)er |

I heard an interview on the radio this morning - the RCMP had contacted a truck stop in Arnprior, and they were coordinating everything (the interview was with the truck stop owner).
Sounds like the RCMP is on top of it. |

God, the quotes from some of these people in this convoy are the absolute dumbest, most childish things I've ever heard. I actually feel embarrassed for them, they're so stupidly, pointlessly aggrieved over nothing. What a bunch of squealing little weakhearts. I feel sorry for them.
Anyway, I love the lacrosse goal. I like that it opens up the back of the net in a new way. I've noticed lately guys also going around the back of the net with the puck but then cutting back and passing out front. It'd be cool if Gretzky's office became more of a factor.
Now we just need to increase the size of the nets and we'll be getting somewhere.

Svechnikov did this the other night where he faked going for the lacrosse goal behind the net, froze both defenders, then passed it through one to an open guy in the slot for a tap in.
