Look, he's the face of the ownership of the team, and he doesn't want to go through a 3, 4 or 5 year rebuild, who would? He is going to put a positive spin on where the team is and frankly I don't think he is that far off. I do not believe this team will contend next year as Dave Scott said it would, but I also don't believe it will take 5 years either given that I believe this team has good players to build around. Chuck is right, this team needs top-end talent and its refreshing that the GM said it about a dozen times today.

1. There are other ways to balance his corporate and hockey dueling tugs. For example, he could have said: I will defer tp the hockey people and give them all the support they need and I am confident they will turn this around quickly. We assure the fan base we are committed to restoring our franchise core values. Leave "quickly" unspecified.

He came across like a politician. The kind that lose re-election. Bland, and clueless.

2. Dude. Come on. There is no rational basis whatsoever for your perspective. Those key guys of ours are not the studs you need for cup cores. They are aging on top of that. There is no reason to believe our young guys can reach even the level of what the vets are now, let alone surpass them.

One is going to be able to see who the real idiots of society are very soon.

A message needs to be sent by the fanbase that we will not stand for this.

Whoever is going to attend these games under Scott is not a fan of what this team once was, or wants a positive future.

Oh stop ... he could have just sat there and farted and you would say he was incompetent. You just don't like Dave because he said this which was a direct slap to your man Hextall!

DS: "I like the way he's built this organization. I've worked with predecessors. I like Chuck's style. I think he's collaborative. I like what we did going into this season. On paper, it looked really solid. Look, injuries happen. No excuses but it did happen. I think we have more than anybody I've seen. I just saw the

- jd250[man games lost] numbers and we're right at the top."

Scott actually said a little more than that...There's a small, but telling quote missing in there where he said "He's never seen the front office staff working so well together, and again, this is my 9th season"...

He's worked with Homer and the Advisor group.... Homer, Hexy and the Advisor group....and Chuck, Homer/Advisor group....None have yielded results, in fact, one could argue this team is currently the worst it's ever been, and it's come under Scott and Chuck's watch. So for me, it's hard to put any stock into who he has confidence in or their plan to thow piles of cash at all these problems.

The difference between this and when Snider owned the team is you knew Snider cared. If it was wrong you could except because he loved the flyers. This new ownership loves money and could care less about the team and fans. Must be hard for Meltzer finally gets his break but has to spew the company line even though he doesn’t believe in it.

Two very notable things were confirmed with today's press conference. One is that Scott is not just a figure head. He is involved daily in hockey decisions. The other is that the country club, is very much involved on a regular basis and are not just ceremonial.

You dont think Giroux already knows whether he is going to waive or not? Nothing that's going to happen over the next 6 weeks is going to change his mind. It isnt going to get better or worse then it is now. Cant imagine he hasnt made up his mind whether he will waive or not.

With you? Absolutely not. I was simply making an observation about society at large, not just the society of Flyers fans. Rest assured, that comment was not directed at you personally.

The best answer was when they asked Scott how to get the fans back….instead of just saying ….we need to have a better product and win win some (frank)in games….he gave some idiotic answer about what a wonderful job Barbara, or some chick was doing in marketing…what a putz.
The only question I liked came from Charlie about Why did Scott have faith in Chuck considering his record as a GM…the look Fletcher had on his face was the high light of the entire presser.

I think he’s known for a while…it may end up being more of a personal decision based on his young family at home.

Same. And if they hadn't already had discussions with Giroux and his agent, this was a pretty crappy way of letting him know.

Totally agree. I see him either not waiving or limiting the teams he will go to with teams like Pens..Rangers..Caps...close to home

Scariest part is they probably think Kevin Hayes, broken down Ryan Ellis and Rasmus Ristolainen are top end talents...

They don’t want a tear down rebuild. In a way it makes sense there are plenty of unmoveable contracts on this team.

So you sell the ufas at the deadline. Braun, giroux, and risto should will all help the flyers in the draft. Maybe make a hockey trade with a piece like konecny/sanheim over the summer or whatever.

There has to be one rule in place over the next two maybe three summers. That is ZERO multi year deals in ufa. Want to spend up to the cap? That’s fine they should on ONE year vet deals. No problem there that gives you opportunities to collect at the deadline.

Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining.
Don’t tell me we’re going to be “right back in it” next year. That’s the insulting part.

Meanwhile. Keep the phone lines open on a player like coots and provorov over the next couple years. Asking price is very high. If someone ponies up then fine.

There is no easy or quick way out of this. The fanbase might have some respect for the process if there’s a legitimate plan in pace with realistic expectations.

47 years old. Never have seen a Cup win. Enjoyed some magical runs that were just sensational. Fiercely proud of my Flyers heritage (Grandparents were season ticket holders starting in Season 2, section U, row 4. Beautiful times). Loyal. Passionate. Astute in hockey observation.

My main conclusion is that somewhere along the line, the Flyers brass began to take the Flyers fandom for granted. Took the loyalty and near blind faith and began to not hold up their end the bargain. I don't know whether it was Mr. Snider's passing, or, maybe, the last few years of his reign where perhaps he exerted less control over the business side of the empire. Perhaps it was during Hextall's run where there were flashes of promise and we were being told to prepare for the long game and then, guess what, the infamous "bias for action" occurs and where has that gotten us?

I think for fans of a certain age, it's been a slow, torturous road to mediocrity from the 2010 run. Poor free agent signings (Weise, Van Remisdyk most notable); esteemed prospects that don't seem to be panning out; a seemingly lack of cohesion in the brass...all of it. You take all of that and then you add in the following rogue's gallery of the hierarchy: Dave Scott, who seems like he has no real idea how to connect with this fanbase and takes his cues from either Clarke or Holmgren (or both) and simply apes what they tell him; Valerie Camillo, who also seems to know nothing about hockey, less about this town, and even less about how to sell hockey in this town. The work these two have done to alienate season ticket holders is staggering in its stupidity and tone deaf presentations. Then Fletcher, who, again, remind me why we are choosing to emulate the Minnesota Wild and not steal someone from Tampa, from Boston, some other team that has had sustained success? The guy has no personality and offers zero reassurance when speaking to the press. He seems as wooden as they come.

The Flyers used to be league trendsetters. They used to have an identity. What a lame press conference. Could Scott be any less passionate when talking about the fans? Does Fletcher have a pulse? Are they afraid to bring Camillo out to have her answer questions about what a total joke the PR and sales teams are, as they continue to fiddle while Rome (WF Center/Flyers) burn?

Enough with Gritty. Enough with the beautiful concourse. Enough with Yandle and his Iron Man streak (seems like a nice guy, but, I'm more invested in Ivan's streak that ended due to Covid). Enough with this franchise taking this once proud fan base for granted.

Thank you for writing this. It's 100% how I feel. I'm honestly ready to jump ship and follow some other team. Writing that actually hurts.

Any worse then what he is getting now? Besides he will only have to put up with it for a month then go where he wants for 3 or 4 yrs as a UFA

Didn't read any of the transcript and forgot there was a presser today. I have no interest in what Dave Scott has to say. There was an interview with him done by the Hockey News a few weeks ago. I read all I needed to read on this clown. He cares about the bottom line and that is it! He doesn't know shyte about the game of hockey. Oh, and Fletcher has the personality of a wet shoe and not worth my time either. Thanks!

Beautifully written. It’s going to rely on that fanbase now more than ever. Not to support, but to continue to send a strong message of rejection.

Hey, I thought things were pretty bad with 10 and 13 game losing streaks and a team that is really unwatchable. But hey after that press conference, I feel refreshed. Like a breath of fresh air. The GM knows that we need more top end talent. All is good.

After hearing that PC, I’m convinced they will go big for high end talent in UFA. I can see Johnny g coming on an overpay….
