If they go out and sign a player like Gaudreau, does that replace Giroux?

Who do you think they're going to go after in free agency? A 4th liner?

- MJL

I would be shocked if they can sign a player that would have his impact

Is one not allowed to change his stance Cliff? He was wrong and seems to be saying as much. Why you keep harping on him for it?

They have a goalie in place. They can do things this summer that may give them a chance at the playoffs however I doubt it. It’s not hard to lift a team into bubble status
- Just5

They just really think it is bad luck and what not. They do not believe it is a talent issue imo. That is scary to me.

Yep they will pay elite level prices for non elite talent like Hayes.

Blank check.

Scott is really trying to sell that. Who knows what he believes. Fletcher knows they’re not talented enough. I don’t worry about fletcher. I worry about his marching orders

I worry about Fletcher because he isn't good enough. His track record isn't good. This will be his last GM job imo.

I do not believe he thinks they are not good enough. If he did then he wouldn't have made the 2 deals for the Dman last summer.

They prob see it this way.

And Ill ask you, honest question.

Where do you think this team would be if Coots, Hayes, Ellis, Farabee, Brassard, Allison, etc were all healthy this season?

I feel like we would be in the mix as a lower seed playoff team.

Now, before you go crazy, that speaks to your original comment that they are NOT talented enough to be a true contender.

They seem to think we are.

Personally I agree we are not talented to win it all. But I also think that if this team was fully healthy it would be a playoff team.

That is my guess why they think they are closer than they really are and that injuries are the major factor.

They ARE a major factor. That is a FACT.

But most of us also feel they wouldn't be a true cup contender even if they were fully healthy. Therein lies the disconnect.

I said this wasn't a playoff team from day 1 in the summer. Before all the injuries and other nonsense they spew.

Still had major flaws from the piss poor coaching down to the talent level.

So let me ask you a question. Seeing who the playoff teams are today. Who do you think they would have surpassed?

The key comments to consider when judging this were the comments about the Flyers winning culture. Which doesn't exist anymore. Scott's comments about the hockey people and the 4 advisors that he is surrounded by. Scott's hockey "IQ" and the Flyers philosophy has been formed by these people and that past. They're going to double down on what they've been doing and they are convinced that it is the correct approach. That only injuries, covid, etc. has stopped them from succeeding.

I am not dismissing what you have been saying. Maybe those utterances were intended to mollify. And they will take the harsh steps needed. Hope springs eternal in the human heart. But my mind would be surprised.
- PT21

Sure, and the Flyers deserve that after the last two seasons. But I still think Fletcher can do this.

I want them to focus on the future and drafting and developing players in order to build the team into a contender with an open window for a significant time.
What I don't want Management to do is get into high priced long term FA, trade youth and draft picks for older players to try and win now. Pretty simple.

- MJL

Then you and I agree

Will this be just like last season where they added older players who didn't get them over the hump? Are you not paying attention to that?
Yes, I don't want Fletcher to spend the cap space that they get on UFA's in an attempt to win now.

Let me ask you a question. How did the Avalanche get Devin Toews? After you answer that question. Then we'll proceed with my next point

- MJL

Devon Toews was traded to the Colorado Avalanche by the New York Islanders on Monday for a second-round pick in the 2021 and 2022 NHL Draft. The 26-year-old defenseman, who is a restricted free agent and filed for salary arbitration on Oct. 10, scored 28 points (six goals, 22 assists) in 68 games last season.

Now figure out why the Islanders made that deal and that will give you some insight into what I want the Flyers to do.

We agree so why did you ask if I want the team to use the cap space?
