In this case he is using it as a verb rather than to describe a person.

commonly still used in shops. Both contexts. They use it when referring to an engine’s timing is off, or when ripping on the idiot in the next bay.

His use of it as a verb, meaning "to slow down" was correct, thus not offensive at all, unlike the insult, which is in noun form.

EDIT: What they above (MJL said and Hesh affrimed)!

That makes no sense to me at multiple levels, unless it was a platitude. Are you sure you are not confusing him with Peter Lukko?

On a related note, does anyone know what % of Flyers was owned by the Snider estate when they sold in 2016 to Comcast? And why they sold?

- PT21

I didn't mean it as a platitude. I guess I must be confusing him with Peter Lukko. I guess I'm mistaken...

These aren't the droids we're looking for.

I never thought I would reach a point where I'm embarrassed by the team I have faithfully rooted for in my life. For as long as I can remember. They are disconnected from reality.
- MJL

How bout it? Of the professional sports teams I root for, the Flyers were always a team to be proud of. Sure there were blemishes, but this is beyond sad. I'm almost numb to the situation.

It would be a relief to feel numb about it. I'm now seething. Leave it to Scott and Fletcher to make me go from just feeling disillusioned to feeling that. And I know I should never feel that way about it!

47 years old. Never have seen a Cup win. Enjoyed some magical runs that were just sensational. Fiercely proud of my Flyers heritage (Grandparents were season ticket holders starting in Season 2, section U, row 4. Beautiful times). Loyal. Passionate. Astute in hockey observation.

My main conclusion is that somewhere along the line, the Flyers brass began to take the Flyers fandom for granted. Took the loyalty and near blind faith and began to not hold up their end the bargain. I don't know whether it was Mr. Snider's passing, or, maybe, the last few years of his reign where perhaps he exerted less control over the business side of the empire. Perhaps it was during Hextall's run where there were flashes of promise and we were being told to prepare for the long game and then, guess what, the infamous "bias for action" occurs and where has that gotten us?

I think for fans of a certain age, it's been a slow, torturous road to mediocrity from the 2010 run. Poor free agent signings (Weise, Van Remisdyk most notable); esteemed prospects that don't seem to be panning out; a seemingly lack of cohesion in the brass...all of it. You take all of that and then you add in the following rogue's gallery of the hierarchy: Dave Scott, who seems like he has no real idea how to connect with this fanbase and takes his cues from either Clarke or Holmgren (or both) and simply apes what they tell him; Valerie Camillo, who also seems to know nothing about hockey, less about this town, and even less about how to sell hockey in this town. The work these two have done to alienate season ticket holders is staggering in its stupidity and tone deaf presentations. Then Fletcher, who, again, remind me why we are choosing to emulate the Minnesota Wild and not steal someone from Tampa, from Boston, some other team that has had sustained success? The guy has no personality and offers zero reassurance when speaking to the press. He seems as wooden as they come.

The Flyers used to be league trendsetters. They used to have an identity. What a lame press conference. Could Scott be any less passionate when talking about the fans? Does Fletcher have a pulse? Are they afraid to bring Camillo out to have her answer questions about what a total joke the PR and sales teams are, as they continue to fiddle while Rome (WF Center/Flyers) burn?

Enough with Gritty. Enough with the beautiful concourse. Enough with Yandle and his Iron Man streak (seems like a nice guy, but, I'm more invested in Ivan's streak that ended due to Covid). Enough with this franchise taking this once proud fan base for granted.

Amen to this! Agree with everything here, plus Brad Marsh was my favorite Flyer ever...the only jersey I ever had and I still have it! (Although it is rather snug these days

It’s terrible PR management. This fanbase isn’t stupid. Long time fans who have watched this team can smell the stink.

He damaged their image a hell of a lot more than helped it today. I’m not sure who he believes will fall in line with their views that as is well?

They will try, and aggressively retool for next season it seems. The inability to realize what a mistake that is, is astounding.

- FlyerFan3260

The first may or may not be true, but I strongly believe that guys like Scott do not see the future of the Flyers fanbase to be with the long-timers, sad though that might be for a guy like you.

More like the Sixers: younger, less attachment, more those who will drop in for a good show. And the corporate suite sales.

Questions (to answers I honestly don't know for sure):
Who promoted Dave Scott after Luukko left? I assume it was the Board of Directors for Comcast-Spectacor, but did Snider have no say in it?

Bill, I've read your comments on this before. When you read the comments of Scott and his answers about the Snider era and this answer about the management structure

"DS: "I mean, right now, Chuck is my guy. We're trying to build beyond that. Strengthen our front office as much as we can. But we've made a lot of positive changes that way. I'm excited about that. I feel like, personally, I'm surrounded by great hockey people. We've got our four advisors (Clarke, Holmgren, Barber, Lombardi). We've got Chuck and his staff. We've got deep talent on the hockey ops side. I feel like we're not lacking anything there."

Combine words with actions, the recent Clarke interview debacle and it's not hard to figure it out. For all of their early franchise success, this organization reeks of the Flyer old school legacy. They were asked if they were disconnected from the Snider legacy. I say they're too connected. The modern day NHL has passed this franchise by. They are tone deaf to the fans and incompetent in building and running a team in the modern NHL.
They need to completely purge the team of it's past in terms of running the hockey team. Scott talked about the winning culture of the franchise. That culture is long gone. They haven't had a winning culture in over a decade. Scott further reinforced today how disconnected he is from hockey reality. Did you hear his comments about getting the fans back? That was an incompetent answer Dave! How about winning and putting a quality team on the ice! My only hope is for the unlikely event of a fan revolt.

Not disagreeing with some of the big picture stuff.

Am saying that I do have some knowledge of the respective current day involvement levels of the senior advisors, and that their roles are not identical. At least one has also dealt with health issues that are not public knowledge.

Clarke had seriously scaled down his involvement pre-Chuck -- spent a lot of time in Florida -- but got more involved again when Chuck came aboard. They are close.

Absolutely chilling.

Trading for RR, picking up MacEwen, splashing for the big #2 C in Hayes... all that stuff stinks of Bob Clarke.

Boss Comcast (Brian Roberts) personally tapped him for the job. They actually pulled Scott out of early retirement... with the plan to groom him to run the Flyers.

Snider was fighting cancer and he only had a minority stake in Comcast-Spectacor, so I'm guessing he didn't really have much of a say. I'm sure he already knew Scott, tho.

“My first draft here, and I say that just because I wasn't in the room when it happened for a lot of these past drafts. I can tell you I've read all the reports from our scouts from 2014 on. I know what everybody felt. I know where we were right, where we were off. But I wasn't in the room when these decisions were made because there were certain players when they were picked.”

This fletcher quote stood out the most. Seems to me that he’s saying that the scouting is not an issue and rather there was a drafting issue from 2014 and on before him that has played a big part in where the flyers are today.

Seems like they are convinced hextall was the problem and they are still recovering.

Hextall did not sign a 3C and 4C to multi- year overpriced contracts
Hextall hasn’t greatly overestimated where this roster is on a talent level
Hextall hasn’t depleted high draft capital for ordinary bottom line players

This management group is seriously allergic to looking in the mirror and making honest evaluations.

I’m really coming around to the idea you have of drafting high ceiling low floor players, pretty much exclusively. The draft needs to be a talent grab

for sure, or at least a mix like 70/30 that way. The well rounded 200 foot players to me equals leveling out as a 3rd liner skill wise. We only have 1 3rd line, we dont need 15 players like that. And those guys are easy FA pick ups anyway. Why use a draft pick for them.
