don't think it's the fact of explaining that to them, its the environment in which you're explaining. If i was going to have a talk like that with my kids, it's going to be in the living room, not after spending $$ on tickets to a game. They're going to have TONS of questions so to me, best to avoid until you can have an actual conversation
