If you make the mistake of actually reading what Rogan tweeted, it's not a full admission that what he was saying is wrong. Far from it.

And if you look at what Rogan retweets, 75% of it is dangerous wackjob poop.

- Atomic Wedgie

Yes, there's no denying his agenda.

He, like all other media, hides his agenda behind the thin veil we call "news/reporting" or "speech".

CNN has an agenda ...Rogan has an agenda ...inspired by personal beliefs or $$$.

Free speech is about the state restricting speech, he's not advocating that. He's exercising free speech.

And two of his kids have cerebral palsy and another has epilepsy and his dad covered the Leafs. He has a strong interest in medical health issues.

I had his dad’s two hockey books when I was a kid: Scrubs on Skates and Boy in Leaf’s Camp.

And he was conceived under a dining room table during a snowstorm - very close to where I'm now typing this.

Last I checked, the house was about to be blown up, or at least renovated. Somebody should have opposed it for historical reasons.

In the Leaf blog comments we don't enforce this to the degree perhaps others do, as some have noted verbally or with emojis the conversation here does go off topic to non-hockey related things. As long as the conversation is polite, fairly non-confrontational and respectful we let it continue. It unfortunately doesn't always go that way but that happens with both non-hockey and hockey related discussions. o he person they disagree with - and that is where it can go sideways in a hurry.

So only perfect people can take stands on issues that matter to them? Martin Luther King was an adulterer. What a putz.
- Canada Cup

I know what you're suggesting. You want me to write a book for everybody to follow it's beliefs/rules.

Too many Leaf games in February so I won't be able to commit.

People are just getting warmed up for when corporations take over and actually legislate instead of just lobbying.

We seem to have this belief that our rock and roll heroes are perfect - they all have flaws and weaknesses just like us. Young is an important songwriter and a Canadian Icon. He's not perfect by any stretch. If you look to see if he's a nice guy in Peoples magazine, you will be even more disappointed.
- winsix

Uhh, people think rock and roll stars are perfect? I think thats a crazy statement. More often than not, theyre thought of as nutcase drug addicted adulterers that sleep with all their groupies.

Also Spotify overcompresses most of their music. More often than not there's audible pumping even on the highest quality.

COVID and related subjects are the biggest thing to affect society - including the NHL - since WWII.

We need an outlet, and I appreciate the latitude you are giving us here.

All good and to simply shut down anything not directly related to the blog would make this a place a bit of a ghost town. Now it would be A LOT easier for Dozzer and I

My mother in law (with dementia) has a boyfriend. He comes over to her house on weekends. He insisted they get Fox News.

I had never seen it before - I couldn't believe how bad it was. It's franking scary.

On our cable package, we get MSNBC. It's not quite as bad (it's still franking horrific), but there's no doubt that MSNBC isn't nearly as entertaining. Fox is all about making simple things (and people of colour, of course) scary, blaming people, and being angry. MSNBC is all about being indignant and being a victim.

If you don't actually want news, Fox News > MSNBC.

Sad, but true.

Not all rockstars

I think that stopped in the 90s.

As much as it amuses me to think that mumford and sons are doing rails and banging groupies back stage...

That is an example of things not going sideways but rather straight down, as fast as they can go to the bottom of the pit where Buffalo Bill demands you put the lotion on the skin.

If we are going to get a good hate on for rich people who have a sense of entitlement, can we talk about the British royal family?

Ya, I've tuned in out of curiosity a few times and it's just a lineup of anxiety inducing dramatic narratives. My limited mainstream news is BBC and CBC.

I get two takeaways from things like this:

1. "I’m certainly not here to poop on anyone’s optimism about the Leafs either."

Yes, you are. The specific purpose of this article is to curb optimism. Otherwise it's as relevant as a phone number on a gas station wall.

2. It bears a certain relevance that the Montreal Canadiens, as little as we all want to think of them, went to the Cup Finals, beating Vegas and _sweeping_ Winnipeg who had swept McDavid's Oilers.

If the Leafs had lost to Montreal and Montreal had bowed out easily to Winnipeg, you can look at how much was wrong with this team. But they didn't. They went to the Cup Finals. They were hot, they played well, and they were backstopped by a hot goalie and some solid defense.

Yes, the Leafs lost after leading 3-1, and they absolutely crapped the bed in game 7 - but they were still the better team in games 5 & 6 - particularly in game 6 where they outshot Montreal 13-2 in the OT period and Price was stunning in that one period.

Now the argument can be made - and this is the crux of it - that they should have done more to not be in the position where OT arrives and it can go either way. This is what they need to learn from: Put yourself in the driver's seat.

They are a very good team, but so are Florida, Tampa, Colorado and Carolina. If the Leafs lose, or Florida loses or Tampa loses or Colorado loses or Carolina loses, it doesn't make any of them not good teams.

There is always room for optimism when you have a good team. Not enjoying this ride while it's happening - whether we end up with the cup or not - will be something many of lament when the ride ends and we could have another incompetent driver at the wheel for another decade or more.

When the release of a compressor is set poorly and there's audible unnatural changes in the level of the audio as a result

Neil pulled his (or threatened to pull) his music from Spotify before because of the quality of the sound. He set up his own high quality system. He relented and put his stuff back on Spotify because he realized that’s where people are going to listen.

haha, i dont know if I would call it a hate on for rock stars. I just think theyre far from perfect... very very far. But i certainly dont hate them. I would say I would like their life, maybe if I could live it for like one weekend a month, because i couldnt do it full time.

I dont hate them, quite the contrary, but I most certainly dont think theyre perfect either.

I'm considering jumping off spotify.

The only thing it has going for it in comparison to, say, youtube music, is Rammstein

a huge portion of news, or media in general, sets the bar so its appealing to even the LCD. in many places, especially the USA, targetting the LCD can be very effective and profitable.

If you're an audiophile and you really care and have the speaker setup for it, then one of the higher definition options (I think TIDAL and Qobuz fall into this category) might be good, but if you're a casual enjoyer of music or you're not wandering around with $300 headphones, then Spotify works.

The larger the streaming service, the less they can charge, but the more they'll have to compress to stream out the content. The smaller the service the more quality they can push out, but the more they have to charge to stay afloat.

I haven't kept up on it at all, but last time I looked (which was pre-COVID), TIDAL was losing money. I don't know how well Qobuz was doing. But I think these guys were in that $20 - $25 USD / month for high def streaming.

Spotify needs to pay more per stream. The gap between how successful the app is and how they pay is way off.

It is a good platform for low end artists though, I have a friend who makes a decent living off of Spotify streams and his shows that he plays.
