You could see it that way too but Sanheim was down there and I think Risto should have noticed. I get the tempest in a teapot criticism of this discussion and agree that it is not helpful to overly emphasize one goal in the first period.
- iamscore2day

It boils down to a horrible turn over and that’s it, others could have played it better but when you have the possession of the puck and someone does something really dumb, good chance it’s in the back of your net.

I like Risto and I wished it would have worked out for him here, but I just think the Flyers need the assets more than Risto right now.
- jd250

They needed the assets last offseason more than they needed Ristolainen.

I meant why Wisdom or Foerster....was wondering what you know about them
- DaveofYork
Desnoyer too......they have a compete level off the charts. Scout mentioned desnoyer will run through a wall if you ask him to. Compete level and motor is off the charts.

This team has continued to blame the players, or imagined nonsense like “locker room dynamics” for many years.

Curious when accountability will be expected in the same fashion in its operations staff, other than firing a coach.

- FlyerFan3260

They fired Hakstol, Hextall, AV, Therien….all in the last 3 years…scouts, assistant GM’s have been let go…I don’t buy for a second Fletcher is on solid ground.

So what's a tough question, Pavel? Performative internet tough guy grandstanding, like "Do you intend to resign?" "Does Comcast need to sell the team?"

- bmeltzer

oof! More than a few here should be feeling the sting of that one. lol

I’m assuming they had next to no other suitors, how do you accept the plan ESPN had put in place. Hockey is never on TV anymore, except as you said, 10PM every other Tuesday
- ClaudeFather

So we finally picked an assistant coach and mike yeo is here for the rest of the season. I’m certain he can get this team to 20 losses in a row. We can do it! Bring the loses to broad!

So draft picks are only important depending on the strength of the draft? You've done a complete 180 from arguing that draft picks didn't matter coming into this season.
- MJL

HAHAHAHA, you trying to set him up or something lol

Being from Canada, you probably don't get the local commercials we get on our TV feed of the game. But for those who do, the reason the Flyers are not winning right now is because the guy in the men's room just isn't getting his correct urinal lately.

When it comes to picking higher in the draft, yes I have altered my opinion since the beginning of this season. I think PT21 made some good points in this topic when it was debated and I have come around to his way of thinking. I mean look, we got some good players picking at 14 with York and Farabee, but this Flyers team needs more than good players, they need a few elite players, and I feel this may be the best opportunity to get them.

These are all great questions….but not for this setting. These are questions to be asked by Scott to Fletcher. I guarantee these are the questions Fletcher will have to answer.
- landros 2

They should be entirely appropriate for this setting. There is nothing wrong at all in a journalist asking such polite but pointed questions. They are a bridge between the entertainers and the entertainees. If the entertainees would benefit from such questions and the heat being turned on, it should be asked.

Having said that, current conventions say they won't be.

Re: Scott and CF - those questions should have been internally asked long ago. It is also possible that if they haven't, CF will turn to him and say: things are the way they are because you/old guard have your head so far up your Neanderthal ass (and/or are so cynical you choose hoodwink the fans into believing otherwise) that you cannot realize the sole way to get out of this quagmire is to endure a years long purge of everything: scouting/mgmt/philosophy/coaching systems.

You have not given me that license, and I tried to build a lie upon a lie and it collapsed.

So, bite me.

The sad part? I do get the flyers feed on CI quite a lot and have seen that ridiculous commercial. Holy god

The give-away was in the offensive zone. Risto moved up. Ol had moved back to take TS's spot when he jumped in to give a backside optoin. When Robertson pushed the puck past them, Hintz had time to floss his teeth on the way in.
- iamscore2day

So when we have the puck…Risto is supposed to give up his position on the blue line ? For that matter, neither is Sanheim. Hintz had a better read of the give away but it a horrible give away that really isn’t on the D.

13 game losing streak, Roasted. Laughing stock franchise, roasted. Half a century cup drought, roasted. Incompetent medical staff, roasted. Clown show management, roasted.
- PLindbergh31

Let's not play the Cup drought game again and make me show you, yet again, that every team, as it accumulates history, eventually has a very long Cup drought that lasts for multiple decades.

Want to criticize the team's last eight seasons? Sure. Go right ahead. Plenty of fodder. But don't take it back to 1975. Doing so is simple-minded, first-level thinking. It's ignorant of what actually goes into a Cup-winning run and just how narrow the margin really can between a first-round exit and a Cup championship.

When the late Jay Greenberg wrote this it was ostensibly about coaches but could also be applied to GMs, trainers, etc: "In the vast majority of cases, the coaches know what they are doing and are considered idiots on fan boards, social media and in the upper bowl by persons who have little clue." -- https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=95758

That's YOU, Pavel.

The sad part is that you actually DO know hockey and yet, rather than showing that knowledge of the game, you typically prefer to come off like a message board version of Angelo Cataldi; the king of first-level hot takes.

Evidently you did not watch the game or the play. Risto pinched. I was wrong about Sanheim, he had jumped up. It looks like OL tried to make a play on the puck after sliding up to take TS' spot. Not sure why Risto would pinch when Sanheim jumps into an open space on the backside.
- iamscore2day

Of course I did not watch the play or 99% of the game. I have however watched a few goals/replays where people, imo, overly blame Risto.

Its too hard to watch the game and want them to lose. Plus, their play is incredibly insipid. People caution about taking and Edmonton, but at least they get to watch 5-10 ooh instances a game with their 2 centers. We don't even have that.

Not sure I would say Risto has speed, he is kind of a clumsy skater IMO. He definitely has size and hits people, but at this point I think given where the Flyers are, Risto is not a luxury they need or can afford right now.
- jd250

Risto has given the Flyers some solid play this year….at least as much as Sanheim and Provy. As Bill and Jason discussed Sunday in their pod cast in a lot of Circles Risto has been viewed as their “BEST” d man this year….others view him as a total liability. I personally think he’s been good, added something they needed. In the end though the team has regressed and he’s not signed beyond this year. I think he’s moved at the deadline.

I totally changed my mind this year. I thought we would be a playoff team. Not even close. I blame the players and Fletcher. This team should be better than it is. That's on the players. Its on fletch for letting it get this far, but might as well see it through.

He made 5 points. 4 were absolutely valid. Attacking the one that is soft because it applies to most teams makes it seem that all 5 aren’t valid.

Can you give your thought on the other 4 points he made please?

That is very artfully stated, Bill, but the average length of time between cup across all teams is 24 years (before the 2020 SCF, and data compiled since 1968). I did this in the summer of 2020, I believe.

Also, with that approach, we can never criticize a team for a cup drought. Edmonton, for example, is in one of those droughts.
