He had already made $61M.
At that point, I'd hope that money isn't your first consideration.
Contending team in a great city is worth $2M/year, if I was a 29 year old guy. - Atomic Wedgie
I think he meant the cost to acquire him?
Edit: Nevermind, I see you realized what he meant |

It still baffles me it costed so little to get him.
Then again, he has yet to go back to his MVP season impact on a team.... he's been average in Boston so far. - Scabeh
I looked him up just a few days ago because it had crossed my mind as well. 20 goals / 55 points seems to be his trajectory for the year. I'd rather not pay $6m for that, but there are far worse deals out there, and fortunately for Boston with the deals they have Marchand, Pastrnak and Bergeron on, they can afford a bit of underperformance from Hall. That's largely been his output for the last 3 years and at 30, he is now 4 years removed from his "Hart" season (I mean it's weird because McDavid, Malkin and MacKinnon were all better, I think).
I'd have rather had him than Foligno in hindsight, but I'm not retracing how I felt - Foligno was a good addition for this team. It just didn't work out. |

Just realized you were talking about the trade, not the ensuing contract.
In my defence, I got my booster yesterday - I'm a little punchy. - Atomic Wedgie
My first shot was Mo, I just had a sore arm and was out mountain biking the next day
My second was the Pfiz, just had a sore arm for a little bit, nothing else.
My booster of Mo, my arm was really sore 8 hrs later and I had body aches 24hrs later for half a day. Weird.

When was the last time the leafs got someone at the deadline that was an actual impactful player?
Muzzin? - bryant
Was a great add. For a first rounder. Would do that over any day.
It's why I'm not up to wasting a first rounder on Chairot.
The comparison is not even in the same city. |

For my first two, I felt like I had a hangover the next day.
Today feels like I worked out too hard yesterday - just stiff and sore everywhere.
But I've been declining since about noon. Starting to get a headache. |

It would a horrible trade to move a 1st for Chiarot...just so bad. Specially with 1.6m left in cap. He hasnt even been that good this year.

So first of all, I'm going to agree that the cost was exorbitant, so there's no argument there.
I will say that last year was such a crapfest because of COVID and cancelled junior leagues and everything else that a lot of your ability to draft was dependent on the advanced scouting you'd been doing on the younger prospects (full disclosure, I don't know how much of this teams do, but I imagine it's enough to - at the very least - get a sense of the depth of an upcoming draft and guys to keep an eye on and so on; I also would think that with the Leafs starting to use the financial clout in those areas that Dubas would probably a larger scouting team dedicated to such endeavours - again, I don't know, I'm just assuming because it's what *I* would do and I have no experience at this stuff). So if you felt that you had a solid grasp on a larger breadth of players and felt that you could afford to trade a 1st (in what they said was expected to be a weaker draft) then it's plausible they felt that having a pick in the top-60 was still enough.
I do know that they felt that the haul they'd received from the 2020 draft (just checked - they had 12 picks) would compensate for the few picks in 2021. I'm not sure if it was also supposed to compensate for the few picks they have this year, too.

Had Pfizer, Moderna, Moderna - for the first two I had no no symptoms at all. For the booster I was wondering if I had already contracted COVID when I got the shot. I felt lousy for about 2-3 days (headache, tired, chills . . . that general malaise - but no fever, no loss of smell or any of that jazz). |

I wish I was so incredibly rich and so incredibly privileged that I could be so incredibly stupid:
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. apologized Tuesday for invoking Anne Frank to imply Jews had more freedoms during the Holocaust than unvaccinated Americans do today — remarks that drew a public backlash and criticism from Kennedy’s wife.
Kennedy had referenced Frank, a child who died in a Nazi concentration camp, while speaking in front of the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday at an anti-vaccine rally. “Even in Hitler’s Germany, you could cross the Alps to Switzerland. You could hide in an attic like Anne Frank did,” said Kennedy, a longtime opponent of vaccines who has spread unsupported claims about shots shown to protect against covid-19.
On Tuesday, after intense criticism, he tweeted that to “the extent my remarks caused hurt, I am truly and deeply sorry.”
“I apologize for my reference to Anne Frank, especially to families that suffered the Holocaust horrors,” wrote Kennedy, the son of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy (D-N.Y.) and nephew of President John F. Kennedy. “My intention was to use examples of past barbarism to show the perils from new technologies of control.” |

Saw a stat the other day on Leaf Twitter, I believe, that someone had put up.
I don't recall the actual numbers, but it referred to his time on ice against us in the play-offs last spring.
Let's bear in mind how we played in that series especially after going up 3-1.
.Well, basically, his numbers were horrible. So the proof was in the puddin'. |

Suppose there are any Goodrow or Coleman types that we could add for minimal cost, or are we good up front? No doubt a piece on D is probably foremost. |

Could robert hagg be a decent addition for almost nothing?
He'd be ok as a 6 - 7th D. |

Why would you wish that Wedgie? He's obviously a toolbag, envy of such an uninformed person is a waste of your time. As first hand witnesses of the Holocaust are mostly long gone, very few remain with knowledgeable accounts of what it was like. Comparisons are usually very shallow and without substance.

He's a left side guy. Over six feet and over 200lbs and he's physical. His giveaways are insane and have always been insane. He's also always posted negative posession and play driving numbers despite being a 5/6 guy and playing a couple of years for moderately successful Flyers teams. I don't think he's a solution based solely on his numbers - but I sincerely barely remember him playing. |

Umm, they lost that game...understandably.
But then went on to win 3 straight games against a team that was 18pts below them in the standings.
No excuses. - Fakepartofme
Missing one of the best Cs in the NHL absolutely hurt the Leafs. This series doesn't got past 5 games if Tavares is healthy.
Sometimes excuses are legit. |

Playoffs are tough, injuries will eliminate very good teams early.
