We can agree to disagree. I don't think he retires, and I think his recent play shows he is coming back around. His current salary (not cap hit) is $6.9mil. I can envision a contract for 3-5 years, if he wants to play, that starts around there and has declining salary each year, so his cap hit would be around there. Kane probably gets a contract close to his current cap hit, at least for a couple of years. - TheTrob
Toews can keep playing for sure, if he wants to. Right now, as is, there isn't a better Center on the roster. His point production overall has suffered because of he hasn't been able to score goals, but he has setup a lot of plays with his passing. He also has the thankless job of playing down low on the PP where he doesn't get so many touches on the pucks and assists as he could have if he was slotted elsewhere. I mean you look at his even strength points once he got his legs going and he is among the team leaders. I'm not saying his play has been ideal, but he is contributing in a lot of ways.
He won't get a huge contract, but he can continue to play as long as he can maintain his health.
IMO Kane shouldn't get more than 8M AAV unless he really finds his goal scoring touch. Kane has talent and certainly helps the offense, but they also have to avoid overpaying for assists on a guy who will be 35 around the time his next contract starts. If he was pumping in goals like Ovie (who just got 9.5 on his contract) that would be a different story. Offense only players lose value if it's mostly just assists and their line is underwater at 5v5 for goals. I don't want them to move on from Kane, but if he demands too much, don't mortgage the future to keep him happy, not when the team is looking for it's next generation of superstars. The Hawks need new guys to be the top dogs or this team will stay near the bottom on the NHL. |

I think the TDL will bring minimal change, with mostly (if not solely) expiring contracts being moved. Carpenter, Lafferty, de Haan, Gustafsson and Lankinen could all be moved for disappointing draft picks. Fleury is the only possible pending UFA that could net a decent return and even that situation is complicated.
Shaw's contract may come into play too as it could help a team take on a contract like Fleury's. - DarthKane
I hope they keep Lankinen around. He shouldn't cost much and won't bring back much in return. I'm just not sold that the team will have another goalie ready to step in. |

You think Rocky would sit back and allow his “hockey people” to break the team down to build the team long term but potentially take a bath financially, because of decreased ticket and merchandise sales, in the short term? - paulr
Yes, because #1 the Hawks is but a pimple to the Wirtz Corp in regards to size of revenue and profits. Worst is they use the operating losses (which they have anyway even in good years) to offset gains in other businesses. The total initial investment into the Hawks is $1 mil., worth accofding to Forbes $1.4 billion, most of that evaluation is the name. This is a business that is nothing more than a marketing tool. Do you notice when Rocky and now Danny took over, they already had their internship with the real revenue engine (beverage division). Insurance, financial service, realty are handled by other Wirtz's. I also think Danny got involved because they were afraid of the possible bad press from the Beach fiasco spilling over into the other businesses, not because Danny is going to learn anything about Hockey operations, except from who he hires.
The Writz's are not Peter Pocklington, Bruce McNall, Terry Wang, John Spano etc. Unless they reinstitute the 18th amendment, I do not think anyone needs to think about holding a tag day for the Wirtz's, or worry that losses with the Hawks are going to make them think about where they are going to have dinner tonight.

As far as hockey goes, so glad to see they could play better than they did the night before. I hope they pay particular attention to the Russian with a stick (97) next time out. And, of course, Hartman. There's just something about deliberate cheap shots that leads me to intensely dislike teams.
Speaking of, good opportunity tonight to teach Landesgog some humility.
I dislike there sorts so intensely because all of them have some actual NHL level talent but choose to be Dirtbags On Ice. |

Somebody has to be in the "leaders" on one of the worst scoring teams in the league.

Difference is The Bears are the sole source of income for the family, the Hawks are meaningless as far as The Wirtz companies are concerned. I doubt the Wirtz’s cannot run the Hawks organization, considering how big and successful their other businesses are. - LAHawk
I'm inclined to believe the Hawks are meaningless to the Wirtz'. What family that is so successful in numerous business' would have a sexual predator roaming the organIzation for a few yrs and not know it, have competing "factions" switch the organIzational plan back and forth each yr, missing the playoffs 5 straight yrs doing so, drain almost the whole pipeline of talent and then EXTEND and PROMOTE the guy who oversaw it all.
Indeed......... |

So annoying - finally a game on ESPN+ (which I broke down and paid for this year), but is blocked from streaming in my region. What part of "a team's fans are not confined to that team's local area" do they not understand? There is no point of paying for this service if I will be blocked from watching my team's games. |

I like the definition that gets me high better. ...... Been awhile since I knew the definition of the word cathartic to be truthful. Had to look it up and I'm sure the next time I run across the word I'll have to look it up again.
How can I work the word in for what will having scored 2 goals playing 4LW and 8:00 TOI last game get Borgstrom as far as slotting and minutes tonight?

Yea, not a fan of the alien silver helmets... Byfield is a big big boy but I remembered him being more skilled and his skating looks average with good straight line speed. Of course this is his 2nd or 3rd NHL game so I'll give him time.

Yeah, I’ve been watching this one, I like LA’s team. They actually have two of the top five defensive centers in hockey, that could come in handy in the playoffs. |

See the defensive system they play? Looks the same as the Hawks amateur coach doesn’t it? Difference like you said are better defensively aware forwards, and defenseman that don’t have boulders as hands. |

Zadorov with his 3rd goal of the season tonight, he’d be tied for the lead in d-man scoring on the Hawks. Why did Stan waste all those assets on Jones with Zadorov was the answer all along???? |
