When is the last time they had an original game IP that went big? Pokémon?
They innovate with their systems, sure. Their games are just rehashing the 80's and 90's...and I say that as a fan - Takemedrunkimhome
No More Heroes. |

really..? I haven't played much but Breath of the Wild for example doesn't feel like a rehash at all. - Pat1993
Look at the title: LEGEND OF ZELDA: Breath of the Wild.
And it was a great ZELDA game. New Mario was awesome too |

There's a huge difference between rehashing and building off of... Nintendo may not pop out series X every year, but when they come, it's always something different. And this is from a PlayStation stalwart. |

Just play Horizon chase Turbo.
You can thank me later. - Scabeh
Great game... and that's what Nintendo does.... simplicity meets nostalgia. The original audience from the 80's have kids, and know you introduce 2 generations to it.
Has anyone tried super blood hockey? Very old school look. Just wondering if it's something that you can play for hours or get tired of quickly. Surprised switch doesn't offer something more for hockey and football. |

And would it kill them to make another Metroid or Punchout? Like (frank). |

yes but they've made a completely new game with it, to me "rehashing" sounds like repeating the same thing over and over again. |

I'm still waiting for the real next gen Metroid game. Samus is one bad female dog... Imagine if they could get the rights to a Samus vs Xenomorph game?!? |

If I limit myself to games produced by Nintendo (and not console exclusives made by other companies), here's a list of amazing/high selling/popular IPs they made since pokemon:
Advance Wars
Animal Crossing
Splatoon
Brain Age (yes it sucks but they sold millions of these)
Smash Bros
Fire Emblem (ported in the west after being limited to Japan)
Golden Sun
Paper Mario
Pikmin
Wario ware
Xenoblade
Astral Chain
No other companies pumps out great games and new ips like Nintendo.... adding to the already ridiculous amazing games they produce through Zelda/Mario/Metroid/Punchout! etc.... |

My point is Nintendo, like the Simpsons lives off characters from their heyday and put little to no effort into developing anything new or amazing. It is an imperfect analogy, I'm aware.
Zelda still has Link saving Princess Zelda.
Mario still saves Princess Peach.
Mario Kart is still super elastic and even after I kick your ass for 2.5 laps the game will give you mushrooms, stars and blue turtle shells to somehow keep the other guy in the race.
They haven't really changed these IPs that much and when they do you get something awful like Mario Sunshine |

Link fights through dungeons, gathers different weapons and trinkets to help along his journey before the final battle against Ganon to save Zelda. Blueprint is pretty damn similar |

You could have that blueprint argument about any series of games. |

Animal Crossing is 20 years old.
Smash Bros is 22 years old.
Paper Mario is 21 years old.
Just for examples as the 3 most well known titles in your list.
Brain age is 16 years old |

this describes quite a number of adventure games lol... personally I feel the gameplay is completely different, making it a new experience. I don't see why they would slap another name then Zelda on it just so they can say it's a new IP. |

That's my point though. Simpsons lives off their original few seasons. Nintendo lives off their original game IPs. That's all it was.
And I say that as somebody who loves Nintendo and has been bored with PS and Xbox for a stretch |
