I dont think any person gets handed a job without fitting requirements or having credentials/experience to do the job, especially a job of that stature. I understand the question given how prevalent the media has been in regards to hiring females, but I don't think it really has anything to do with it. It's a multi million dollar franchise run by an egotistical owner who is hellbent on making money. I doubt he signs off on a 6 digit or more salary just to appease the fanbase on gender equality.

I guess I need to eat crow. It was a useless hire then as it was now.

Was she supposed to say, no Jim, 3million for 4 years is to much, how about 1.5 for 2 years.

It was mentioned sometime ago that the Canucks would be adding women to the management group, this is not a new revelation.

Any one hiring would not cause questioning. Hiring three in one month sounds like an agenda.

Neither does trying the same thing over and over again.

I think they are building a strong management style with a vocal group that will have input into many of the decisions made.

Let's be fair, the most recent fired GM has destroyed the team for years and years, as well.

Why does asking questions equate to this?

A hiring for a major position was just made... these are legit questions about qualifications. I have expressed many times that I am tired of alumni or BC connection hiring's for this team and just want the best qualifications possible... that statement applies to everything about management hirings. It seems like questions about qualifications regarded a hiring are being treated out of line because she is a woman... if it were a man... the discussion wouldn't be treated with this kind of attitude. Try and be more open minded. If she is the most qualified, I can get behind that 100%... where as some are showing right now, that takes a back seat to a different agenda.

Rutherford said from day one that he was looking to diversify the front office. I guess hiring 2 women is going too far.

I dont think it was as much of the canucks saying they needed to hire women, as much as they interviewed woman who were qualified.

If they hired botterill, who many in here wanted, would people still be raising the same questions?

Women are becoming more prevalent across all major sports franchises. From reffing, to coaching, to general managing, to sports trainers and equipment NHL trainers, to teams sports physiotherapists. There has always been a small disproportionate amount of women in sports across all positions, it's just now they are getting involved or higher spotlight roles.

You mean like hiring people in positions with no previous experience? Benning Green Linden Gillis . The list just got bigger.

Jim Rutherford said when he was hired that he would be looking to fill positions with woman. So he is actually on record... that does not mean she's not the most qualified but at the same time, the question isn't out of line.

I still don't quite get what your question is though. Her credentials and experience were listed in the hiring statement by the club. She's well qualified. In terms of actually being an actual AGM, and relative to the qualifications of other AGMs or even some GMs that were hired. If she was a man and those credentials were listed, would there be a question? Her credentials exceed that of Mike Gillis who had a law degree and was a player agent?

They just hired an analytics person who basically called the management group idiots and wanted to change the owner. That is a really ballsy hiring or one of the dumbest in history of hockey. We will find out.

Ryan biech constantly made fun of Benning, his trades and his signings and he was also hired? His entire tweet history was deleted as soon as the canucks announced the hiring. Your personal public opinion, as long as it stays within the realm of not being a POS, doesn't disclude you from being hired from a job if you're qualified

I see what people are holding up as NHL qualifications for a AGM... many of them are not actually.

About what was in bold... you have a short memory or have a built in filter. There were many on here who asked the same questions about the Linden hiring... great guy but is he qualified? Even I presented this question about Gillis when he was hired as GM. Why is being a sleezy agent who the rest of the NHL dosnt trust and hates a qualified choice? He hasnt had a job with a team since either...

I understand that argument, but anyone that doesn't have "experience" in the role they are hired for, are still under the watch of Rutherford, who has decades of experience.
The most recent hire, Emilie Castonguay, is hired as an AGM, in charge of negotiation and other contractual items, which she has experience for.

I was hoping for 3 women hired in prominent positions.
