Teams that win the coin toss in OT (playoffs) are 10-1.

It needs to change

- sbroads24

They never updated the rule to keep up with the times.

In the 90's it's a fair rule, but now defenses are in such a hole that it's inherently unfair.

Just go to college OT, FFS. Want to talk about exciting?

Well sure, the OT rules suck
But it should’ve never come down to that

I’m strictly talking about the OT rule. It’s heavily favoring the team that wins the toss.

Change the rule

It’s unlikely imo we compete for a playoff spot next year
Think we are still another year or 2 away from the kids being able to really move this team forward significantly

I see a season similar to what the wings are doing this year, assuming they get a legit second goalie

Yeah. I think we’ll see improvement for sure
But with so much youth playing important roles,
it’s also hard to imagine we’ll be very consistent

A season like the Wings are having seams plausible to me
Picking somewhere around 10th in the draft next season
Sure would be nice to get a little lotto luck & get Bedard though 😍😍😍

I don't get why that's so hard to understand.

It can be both.

Levi, Pasquale and Tomkins will handle goaltending for Team Canada at the Olympics. Also, clarification on Kent Johnson. Johnson is listed as an alternate going into camp, but could make the team if there’s an injury or Covid hits

No Dubnyk, guess Levi will get some time

For me, it's not that I don't think the rule should change. It's that I just know I can't make that argument today without it sounding like sour grapes. So I'm just not gonna.

Aren't all holds intentional? It's not like guys streaking down the field getting their feet entangled and they both go down.
- Wetbandit1

I didn't know the rule existed until today, either. But if the official deems the defender held intentionally with intent to run time off the clock, it's a 15yd penalty and the time is restored. Obviously very subjective, but how bad would the league look if the Bills just tackled 5 receivers on back to back plays to run clock like the previous poster suggested

That's fair.

I feel like I can because I've hated the rule forever; they made it better, but still massively flawed with how slanted the game is toward the offense.

This is all very true.

The OT rules date back to the 4yds and a cloud of dust age of football.
They need to make it at least one possession each before sudden death kicks in, if not going fully to the college way of equal number of possessions throughout OT. (No shortened field, though, that’s BS imo, each possession starts with receiving a kickoff as normal)

But just bc you’ve found a way to justify to yourself the complaining about the rule,
that still isn’t make it sound any less like “sour grapes” to others

So yeah, stupid rule
But when Bills fans complain about it after a loss like that,
it’s just gonna sound bad
