So who ( besides me) on this board will admit that Strome was far and away the best Hawk player on the ice last night, and since the coaching change, one of the best players on the team?
Dots was right this team was not ready to play last night. This now is a trend under 2 coaches. Maybe it is time to change the players? Anyone concerned that the 21=year old birthday boy played like he celebrated before the game last night? Kubalik playing any meaningful minutes is a joke. They aren’t getting anything for him at the TDL, they should just DFA him at the end of the season.
This board is great about calling out how Carpenter, Khaira, etc. suck. Well they do, so do most other teams 4th line, 12th /. 13th forwards. When are we going to stop making excuses for the others?
Only trade chip Hawks have that is going to bring back anything is Fleury. With Kessel, Chycrun, Klingberg, Pavelski among others being floated, who wants what the Hawks are offering?

The entire team effort was so sad to watch the 1st 2 periods it's difficult to focus on any positives. Strome included.
On another forum, there was a mention of the coach not preparing the players. I called BS on that. The Hawks are simply not very good and unless they're getting exceptional goaltending, they are below average. And if the guys they are playing against are just better players, they're (there, their) screwed.
They currently sit at 15W/19L/6OL. They have only 8 regulation wins and out of those 8 only 2 were against teams that are over .500 (VEG/ANA). In the win against the Nucks, I believe at that time they were under .500.
Time to move who you can, get the best return you can (which will be 2nd guessed into infinity), and start trying to put together a team that works hard an entire game.

Strome has been playing like he actually gives a poop and not getting knocked over and off the puck when a defender looks at him.
Only took him what 3? maybe 4 yrs to get there. I was hopeful that Dach coming off Covid protocol and turning a calendar year would also magically have it all figured out last night. So now that he's 21 I suppose I'll jump on the "he sucks" bandwagon and advocate the Hawks trade him.
Will be fun to read here when he becomes a decent player for another team. |

I was thinking the same last night about Strome. But remember it took two or three benchings by King to get him there. But that also shows we have to show some patience with Dach. Who by the way should be in Rockford for the remainder of the season.

Agree 100%. I'm not ready to give up on Dach yet, but I think he should be given time to figure things out in the A. Previous management was waaaay to fast to bring him up, and in the bubble he's shown glimpses of what he can be.
He's got to show it himself too, though. Maybe spend the rest of the year in Rockford, working on his faceoffs and finishing, have him work on it during the summer, then see what he's got next year.
This team isn't making the playoffs, and keeping Dach around here isn't doing anyone any favors.
Edit -------------------
I also remember people calling the Cat a bust and saying we should move him for whatever we can get a year or two ago.
Colliton screwed with a lot of young players on the team I think, might take a bit for the really young guys to figure it out because of him. |

CAN'T WIN A BOARD BATTLE WITH ANY CONSISTENCY , TOO MUCH STICK CHECKING, GIVES THERE OPPONENTS TO MANY EASY EXITS FROM THERE ZONE. TIME TO SIT PLAYERS LIKE KURASHEV AND KUBALIK AND YEA DACH, GET SOME YOUTH IN THE LINEUP TO BRING SOME ENERGY TO THERE GAME |

I'm glad to see Strome take another step in the right direction, now it's about consistency.
Dach needs miles and coaching, i think King will have his off to the side conversations, healthy scratches and the hope is when Reichel is ready for the bigs, Dach is that much better as a NHL center.
Kubs has been struggling for sure, but not worried about draft picks that's all been (frank)ed up already. |

This team hasn’t been good all year. The players have been inconsistent all year and every game you seem surprised. |

And credit to the Wild, on my screen watching the game i counted at least 4 Wild players around the puck most of the night with the 5th not too far out of the picture, playing Bolts energy/style hockey |

And what did the Wild do? They bit the bullet and bought out Suter and Parise.

2 or 3 benchings? It has taken 6 f'n NHL seasons. And now that he has played a decent game or 2, there's optimism on here? Really?
I suggest that it just occurred to him (or his dog, agent or mother reminded him of it), that he needs a new contract after this deplorable season.
The only good thing about him playing a little better is that maybe he will have a little trade value at the deadline. I will upchuck if the Hawks give him a QO and resign him to a new deal.

Simply a waste of time watching last night. Brutal. - 6628
It seems to take longer and longer, and I honestly had a feeling to be one of the rats on the sinking ship, and just go to the Florida-Vanc game or to retire to a stream watch in bed. No bladders problems with my significant other or me, so don't bust on that choice of words above.
It was tough, just kept thunk another on of Foley's last couple, and the fact that there is little foothold on the competition, puck, or the bounces almost had me push the off button.
The centre from Pittsburgh is agile and understand the game and has some game.
The two early Seth Jones incidence had me thinking what lead us to the lousy season beginning, and if others thought similarly, that doesn't sell tickets.
I understand the open for business, three untouchable answer to trade deadline, but even re-obtaining a 2022 first rounder, you are looking at a later first rounder.
So even if you DeBrincat the slot that #1 will occupy only guantees a shot securing "good" NHL talent six years down, right?

I have no interest in seeing him in a Hawk sweater anymore. I suspect his career will be the same, he’ll continually need a kick in the ass to get him interested again. But he has played well the last little while, hopefully well enough that he’ll bring back a decent draft pick at the TDL.
How about them Leaves. Isn’t that team defense in fine form? |

Like Coach Keefe said - we are soft and purposeless. And he should have added "and it has been that way for 55 consecutive seasons."
I envision a guy named Calvin DeHaan on their blueline by March. It would really recharge the enthusiasm of the Leaf fan faithful. Hopefully Strome gets thrown into the same trade package. |

The oilers could use Fleury but they also need some depth on the blueline and at forward. Unfortunately they don’t have the cap space for many moves. McDavid and Draisaitl are going to be asking for a trade sooner rather than later.

Funny, the board laments now letting Hartman go. He is 3 years older than Strome. Strome is the same age as Borgstrom. Strome also has what most of the Hawks forwards do not, offensive vision and can put a pass on the stick of a teammate. I guess you would rather have Carpenter, Kampf (when he was here) or that ilk center for Kane, because they don’t get benched? I am not saying Strome is the second coming of Jean Belivesu, but the Hawks have no one on the team with his current skill set, and until they do, I would rather see them keep him than a 3 rd round draft choice.

I was more hoping Murphy for acouple of expiring contracts (nick titchie being one) to make the money work, and also the Leafs #1 pick. They are that desperate. |

I think the Leaves are so desperate they’d be willing to move allot if they thought the return was valuable. But Dubas has shown an inclination to acquire forwards when it’s defensemen he needs. |

You’re right about Strome’s offensive vision and passing ability and I’ll add offensive creativity but he’s so slow, he’s weak on his skates, he has no interest at all in playing any kind of defensive game, he only competes when he has the puck and he constantly needs to have a fire lit under his ass to get him to do anything. |
