Not saying anything at all about today's thread. However, I personally consider America to be an unspoken polytheistic society with a tiered structure of dieties. There is, however, to borrow from Tolkien, one god to rule them all: money.

Many, many people make money their primary consideration in doing almost anything because money is literally the greatest thing ever invented. The entire idea of fungiblity is shockingly, astoundingly, practically brilliant. Society couldn't function without it.
