It’s a little closer than you think… roughly 40% righties and 60% lefties

And the two time cup champs are 3 lefties on the left and 3 righties on the right

Makes a bigger difference than you think

IMO its less important than its made out to be. Looking at a list of all time greats, not many RHD in the top ten on any list. 2 at most 3 that would include Chelios, Shore and Tim Horton

On the Left side,
Bobby Orr
Niklas Lidstrom
Ray Bourque
Scott Niedermayer
Scott Stevens
Red Kelly
Paul Coffey
Larry Robinson
Doug Harvey
Chris Pronger
Borje Salming
Brad Park
Chara

pretty big list IMO.

Thing is the game is a lot different nowadays then when most of those guys played. Hence the reason the way the guy shoots means more. Chara still plays but he’s on the left side.

Yes there’s still flips but they’re not as common as they once were

I agree its, changing, but for me talent trumps which side the player shoots from. I had a good laugh going through the all time greatest defensive pairings. At #2 was Bobby Orr ( and anyone he played with) at #1 was Doug Harvey and Tim Johnson (both LDH) Some of the RHD they included were ridiculous, I lost it when I saw Greg Theberge with Langway. Theberge played 153 nhl games. Jean Potvin on the right side with Dennis was funny as well.

Oh to be clear I’m not disagreeing with you whatsoever…. I’ve just been noticing that it seems to be changing, slowly, but still changing. I think it’s due to the league getting faster so having the d men turn around to play the puck along the boards is basically now considered a wasted second…. As crazy as it sounds but I honestly believe that’s happening…. Same with wingers, yes we’ll always see players who can play quick enough to get away with it but it’s dwindling that’s for sure. Wouldn’t be surprised that if in 10-15 years the only people we see playing “the opposite side” will be the top end players in the league.

I get that, plus there is a bigger pool of talent from all parts of the world these days. It's definitely changing.

Lol my primary point is tho that especially a skating team like Toronto it gets risky to have d men who have to turn around to play the puck up against the boards.

Also I don’t really think it’s an offensive guy they need… they need to boost up the shutdown pairing, get those two going. Hopefully they do because moving Holl would have to be in line with his M-NTC and there’s no way Muzzin will accept it considering he’s from Woodstock ON and now is close to family.

The young two aren’t good enough to be the primary shutdown pairing yet and it’s going to be tricky to figure out a way to upgrade the main two. So truthfully my hopes is that they come around and are truly solid by the playoffs.

Sens played a strong game against the Sabres. They lost despite carrying the play into the Buffalo end all night.

Stutzle, Brannstrom and Formenton all looked really good. In fact, I thought the Sens played better than what they did in the recent wins against Edmonton and Calgary.

Full credit to the Sabres for standing tough against the physical style the Senators play.

I am convinced Sens are building a team that will be a very hard out when they finally make the playoffs. Soft teams can't go deep in the playoffs. It is always the same. After Christmas teams get serious. Edmonton has collapsed. The triple axles so easily performed in the early season are now proving more difficult. Physical play makes that kind of difference.

I watched Sheldon Keefe in his post game interview last night try to explain how the Leafs blew a 3-1 lead against the Ranger last night. His only explanation..we are too soft!

Duh! All three games (Edmonton, Calgary and Buffalo) were great character building games for the kids. Folks need to be more open in understanding that there can be great progress even when the result is not a win.

He doesn’t fit our biggest need which is in the right side but all the other kids are getting Chycruns.
- Canada Cup

Chychrun played big minutes on RD with Alex Goligoski for a couple of seasons.

He'd be just fine on the right side.

4-0 now. Game basically over.

You think they'll wait until morning to fire the coach and GM or just save everyone's time and do it right this second?

Reaves has made many teams appear soft. And on a good night he can play a regular shift. I think that deal was made with Tom Wilson in mind but he can have an effect on games with good old toughness. Rangers are not an easy out
