Exactly, I was right about him from day one, good point.

He’s living up to his contract this season… for the first time.

Their second-period play left something to be desired as, for the fourth time in their past five games, the Leafs blew a 3-1 lead.

That is not a bump in the road .. that is a full on wreck..

- dozerD10

It was mainly the errors of 3-4 people.

Your Ducks look more like a wreck than we do.
- shack67

Yeah... Struggling for sure... but ahead of schedule also... and McTavish on the way.. with Perrueault, Zellweger, Dostal, Pastujov and Groulx coming... i'm stoked. ...

We aren't good enough to beat Col or Minn or Pit with Terry / Milano / Fowler / Manson and until last night Gibson out.

He doesn’t make sense for the Leafs. Maybe if he was a rightie.

I don't put much stock into the the RHD vs LHD crap. It's mostly a myth in my view. Bobby Orr could have had a bag of farts as his RHD partner and they would have still been the best defensive pair in the league. Chychrun is certainly a player the Leafs could use, the problem is five or six teams have significantly more to offer

Ironically, Chychrun has played both LD and RD for the Yotes.

Nope. This season and like half of last.

You guys seem to think he makes 3mil. He gets paid a (frank) ton, and he’s finally earning it. There are better contracts out there though.

"Soft" is what most gravitate towards because it is an accurate assessment of this team. "Purposeless", in my mind, is actually superfluous because you can't play a "hard" game and be "purposeless".

The Leafs build leads and then coast. They take the foot of the gas because they lack the desire to go for the jugular and play relentless hockey. Obviously, you can't always outplay your opponents but we've seen several games in a row now where the team lacks interest and commitment to playing a full 60 mins. In a word, they're "soft".

So no, I don't think these words just popped into Keefe's head last night out of the ether. He's denying an overarching "pattern" to the season, but no doubt this team has been "soft and purposeless" in the last set of games.

- mjones242

So the 17 or so games in a row that they won mean nothing but the crap they’ve played since their Covid break completely defines the team? Yes, he sees things in their recent play, especially last night, that he really doesn’t like and uses as direct language as you can use. They go through periods of very strong play and periods where they just go to sleep. It worries him and he’s calling them out for it.

Even if you bold it, this is not at all accurate. Full on wreck is a team that goes 1 and 9 or 2 and 8. Leafs did blow 3 to 1 games against four of the top teams in the NHL. Leafs also won two of those games and got 5 out of a possible 8 points against Colorado, Vegas, St Louis and Rangers all on the road, with lots of injuries, call ups and at least one game where the home team got some help from the stripes. No need to go over the top.

His cap is 6.96, salary is 7.4 i believe.
19/20 - on pace for 71 pts
20/21 - on pace for 68pts
21/22 - on pace for 82 pts.

Thats my expectation for someone with a 6.9 cap hit....65- 75pts.
82 pts is exceeding that.

Marner gets paid a (frank) ton....which hes earned the past couple of years.

Agree, Marner is 11th in scoring in the NHL over the last 4 years

Marner is a point a game over his career, Nylander is .76 points per game. I like them both. Panarin at 1.1 points per game over his career is slightly more accomplished than Marner, both are overpaid slightly IMO. Nylander is worth his deal all day IMO.

If all you do is put up points then 70ish points for 7M is high. Keefe has him on the PK a little bit, and there’s a noticeable difference in his all around game. That’s why he’s earning his contract.

Honestly, I’m not going down the Marner comparison road rn. But I’ll reiterate that the Marner haters in the Leafs fan base are the most repulsive people I’ve ever met.

We should get this Orr kid.

I’ve had the impression that D tend to play in the left or right sides. Maybe some are equally good on both. From everything I understood, Chychrun plays left D. Maybe he can move to his off side and lose x% but most likely if we’re going to pay a poopload for a guy it’s to play him where he’s best suited.

So unless one of those fantasy trades happens to make Muzzin disappear, our left side is Rielly, Muzzin and Chycrun and Sandin is back to the Marlies. We’re still left with Holl and no one or $ to replace him with on the right. It also (frank)s Sandin’s development and leaves me with the question of how two years from now Sandin compares to this guy (age difference).

And all of this is before finding money when paying for Jack, Rielly, etc.

I’m sure we could pay as much as anyone else but I can’t see the logic.

Lol yeah man they WON two of those games and lost one in OT...man I wish that qualified as a wreck for the Leafs, that would be sweet.

The only team those results are a wreck for is the Team Canada with NHL players, or a USA Basketball Dream Team, where you legit should never trail in a game all tournament.

Fun fact.

A team with their 3 best D being LHD have won the last 2 cups.

- Santo_44

There is 3 lefties and 3 righties on TB

Hedman, McDonagh, and Sergachev are all lefties and all play on the left side

Rutta, Bogosian, and Foote are all right handed and play on the right side.

Icing a defence otherwise is iffy plain and simple

People say skiing is an expensive sport, but if you shop around, use the internet wisely and make smart decisions, you can get good stuff for cheap.

Or you can be Mrs. Wedgie.

Sigh.
