I suggested Knies, a first rounder and Niemela...

Arizona is also in a unique situation. Who knows where they are next year.

- RogerRoeper

So Knies and Niemela - not a single NHL game between them and a 25th or 26th pick in the draft. He's $4.6 Million cap hit - that is not addressed at all with your proposal, maybe Dubas finds some cap space under a rock or something, I think Arizona would get more from any of Florida, Tampa, Boston, NYR, Colorado or LA. All of who are in a better postition to make a deal like this than the Leafs.

Lundell is already on pace to be a 50 point rookie and Knight is the highest thought of goalie prospect since Jack Campbell (LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL)

So why the move when you can keep the assets and trade the Vatrano's/Verheage's if you lose?

- AdamFrench

Mirtle said that, I don’t know why he did....made him look stupid.

Even the ARZ GM on shrooms can understand Chychrun isn’t worth that.

Doesn’t really matter. Value is within projections and age for prospects. An 18 and 19 year old....if they were in the NHL then they wouldn’t be discussed in the trade for Chychrun because they would be more valuable to the leafs.

Draft position is irrelevant. Both would be picked much higher today. You don't know much about them eh?

That is nowhere close to getting it done for a top 3 D man whose 23 on a terrific contract in a flat cap world..

My AZ buddy who works for Meruelo group in the construction side says this is the ask from the Ducks.

pick top 15 / Troy Terry and Thrun or Zellweger..

- dozerD10

Ffs we do know the ask and the return is never even close to eachother right?

We know how negotiations work.

So they were only exposed for one game? On other nights, they're not "soft and purposeless."

This wasn't an assessment that spanned multiple games. Nope, this was 2 periods of hockey only and Keefe was very specifically only referring to last night. They were "exposed"... but just for one night. Sorry, rest of the league -- the Leafs aren't really soft, just "TODAY".

Oooookay.

Doesn't really matter what Chychrun is worth, its more important to understand what a team is willing to pay to get him in a trade. Larsson for Hall was a deal that was made. It could be called a terrible deal, but it happened. Teams have been over paying for D-men for many years. Doubt Chychrun is moved for anything less than a top six forward plus.

Yes it does.

I’m not going to look at an anomaly trade and expect that to happen again...if it happens then whatever.

But I’m not expecting an anomaly trade here just because it’s happened before.

Exactly .. esp in the flat cap world and did we all mention he is 23 ... and big and can skate and fight if necessary... pretty much what every team in the league is looking for in spades.

If he thought those characteristics were fundamental characteristics he wouldn’t be calling them out for it and challenging them to up their play, he’d be going to Dubas. They have not been playing well the last few games and last night they got exposed. I said at the time an ugly score was probably a good thing.

IMO, the word purposeless is just as significant as soft but everybody likes to associate soft with the team so that’s the only thing that gets a rise (yes, intended). Keefe had a lot of complaints about their play.

Their second-period play left something to be desired as, for the fourth time in their past five games, the Leafs blew a 3-1 lead.

I know your unrelenting Willy stanning doesn’t arouse much criticism in these parts, but it took you 5 years of to even be in the ballpark about him, and your still way off.

Now that Marner has scored on the power play for the first time in 100 games, I’m sure there are other things he’d like to talk about.

I thought this was a joke... But it is actually true... holy crap...

Dude. Getting 3-1 leads against strong teams on the road consistently is in no way a wreck. I've been a Leafs fan for a while, I've seen some wrecks my dude. That road trip ain't one, at all.

"Soft" is what most gravitate towards because it is an accurate assessment of this team. "Purposeless", in my mind, is actually superfluous because you can't play a "hard" game and be "purposeless".

The Leafs build leads and then coast. They take the foot of the gas because they lack the desire to go for the jugular and play relentless hockey. Obviously, you can't always outplay your opponents but we've seen several games in a row now where the team lacks interest and commitment to playing a full 60 mins. In a word, they're "soft".

So no, I don't think these words just popped into Keefe's head last night out of the ether. He's denying an overarching "pattern" to the season, but no doubt this team has been "soft and purposeless" in the last set of games.
