They knew once the final was done he was retiring, nobody has really trying to hide that. I have my assumptions about what they knew about Price, Danault and Kotkaniemi at that time too. Instead we trade futures for Dvorak, sign Savard with term, Hoffman with term and a few role players who were sub NHL level.

If they committed to a rebuild then they could have used the goodwill from their playoff run as cover. Instead they not only choose to try and be competitive but they trash the goodwill in half a second at the draft. MB had a great summer of '20 and a miserable summer of '21

ok so before the final was over they were still expecting him to come back, right?

Hahahaha I think they knew for most of the season but due to his contract and the cba and blah blah blah everybody played pretend and still is. I imagine he'd physically be able to play before his contract is up but I'm 99.999999% certain that will never happen.

Cold winter, restaurants and bars closed, up to Monday we still had a 10 pm curfew.

I mean, who wouldn't?

Don't we have an out with Weber's contract? Nashville has the recapture penalties associated with his contract?

Sorta...thing is that out means Weber wouldn't get all the money remaining on his contract and my guess is part of everybody playing along is so he gets paid. I would think Molson could come up with a way to make him whole with an ambassador job or something, in which case Nashville would have $24m in penalties or something over however many years are remaining. Problem with that is the PA would have a poop fit over losing $24m in potential earnings and so there'd be politics and all that. Long and short I'd say everybody plays pretend and he's LTIR until the deal is up
