Good morning to all. Hope everyone slept well.
- hello it's me 2050

I did not sleep well. I got caught up in HB yesterday and had to work till 5 AM to cattch up, and then was up at 7. Then I went for a run and its cold and rainy, which I hate.

On the flip side, things are looking up, I made eggrything bagel with avocado, and hand ground my coffee from El Salvador (I know you don't like Ethiopian coffee but this is far less bright).

How was your breakfast? What was the meat du jour?

Zedna Chara at 45 fought and beat our most physical player. And not one of our name players will ever instigate a fight, even the so called more physical ones. That says a lot to me re attitude of team.
- biggbear77

Looking at the wrong thing, it's size not age. With Chara's size, he'll still handle most of the NHL, even at his age. Other than Zack who is more physical? No one checks on this team, and you were expecting someone else to fight?

You mean you didn't find the debate over what a 1C is riveting? :-)
- jd250

I wish I had just used "center on the first line" instead of the damn 1c. It is what I meant and ofc, the entire conversation got hung up on that, even though no one was suggesting Schenn was a more important center than ROR.

Yes, I meant it as an afront to him having a bad game, but alas he isn't playing anyway. Sorry, I think Jake is one of those players that employed the country club work ethic that sent a bad example to the younger players. Saw too many games when he mailed it in and I'm glad he's gone!! Just my opinion of course.
- Phillywhiteout

You can't wind up top 5 in franchise history in assists, top 10 in points and top 10 in assists per game if you have a country club work ethic. This is just one of those false narratives. There were certainly flaws to his game and areas where he could've been better such as away from the puck but he was a really good player for this team. There always has to be a scapegoat.

Watched the Rangers Leafs game last night. Fun hockey. The Flyers haven't had a product close to what I watched last night in over a decade.
- Pixote Andolini

If you look at the standings at the top of the league, it is more clear than ever how pronounced is the changing of the guard. Of the top teams, most are young and fast. Only TB is a vet team. Carolina, Panthers, Leafs, Rangers, Avs are up there.

The vet teams who have been good to very good in the recent past are sliding down" Caps, Bruins, Blues, Pens are all bunched in the 8-15 mark.

Ha ha, to be honest when I see those two in diatribe mode I tend to skip over 98% of it. Oooops, I guess Jakey isn't playing tonight. Oh well, that was pretty much my reason to watch the game.
- Phillywhiteout

These days I watch the games just to see the next way the Flyers will lose a hockey game. Last game especially, 9 chances to score a goal in a shootout and 0-9, can't make this up!

So true battling about players that re not even on this team till like midnite...

I can't even get one wizard to tell me,
simply what he sees Morgan Frosts upside to be.
But he will argue about tampa bay and st louis players dude is ponderous.

Even though he isn't playing, we suck enough that he could still score a goal against us, his second...

This is unicorn talk, you realize?
- iamscore2day

If by unicorn you mean possibly un-reaiizable in practice by human beings, I might agree. If by unicorn you mean that the attempt/aspiration to be Olympian in such a manner leaves us no better than if we don't try, I strongly disagree. That attempt is what underlies much of western civilization.

I would love to have this debate with you some day. But I feel loath to start it now, in the morning, without a fresh blog. Perhaps in a days old thread?

You know I enjoy listening to Mike Yeo's post game pressers because he is candid in his assessment of the team's performance that night. One of the themes from Yeo this season is this idea that players need to play the right way, develop new habits and disciplines that will serve them much better when things turn in a game. I liked Jake Voracek's offense and certainly respected his accomplishments as a Flyer, but to me he personified the bad habits and bad play that Mike Yeo is talking about. The long shifts, to bad gaps, the frequent turnover's, the dogging it back into the play, etc. If you want to change the culture of the team, you need to be sure the leaders of the team are bought into and demonstrating the new habits you want the team to form, and that was the opposite of Jake IMO. It was a good move for the Flyers to move on from him.

It is so disheartening watching so few people just destroy this website on a daily basis with their Richard swinging BS.

Just stop.

I used to just like to read the convos, most of the time I didn't even glance to see who made the post.

Now, and I am sure I am not the only one, I glance and see who is writing what, and I just skip it altogether because I know its going to be some Richard swinging, "I'm smarter or more snarky clever than you" post.

Most of the good posters have left. And now we are left with the contaminated detritus poisoning it for those who are left.

The mods don't do poop, and they allow people who do get banned to OPENLY break forum rules by creating alternate accounts so they can continue to spread their bile.

Its why I canceled my season ticket renewal and I encourage all others to do the same. Maybe hitting Eklund in his wallet will finally get someone in here to clean this poop pile up once and for all.

You would think that the NHL would make it easier for people to watch games instead of harder. You would think they would want to expand their fanbase. I remember back when Prism first came out and I didn't have it and when I could go to someone else's house to watch a playoff game it was special. It feels like it's getting back to that with this ESPN+ and Paramount streaming. For what I pay to Comcast, it's ridiculous that I can't watch some Flyers games.
- MJL

Agree 100%. The NHL is it’s own worst enemy. DOPS is another good example of their incompetence

The entire team as a whole hasn't played the right way for a number of seasons now. Mike Yeo has been a constant during that. Yeo should look in the mirror and realize that he and his fired coaching counterparts have failed in getting the team to correct the errors that it constantly makes on the ice. Jake Voracek was not the problem.

Yep...

So I guess my negative spin today is asking which overpaid Flyers player is now injured and eligible to file for Social Security Disability....
And is this season actually a planned tank???

I meant in the most important positions. Not guys like Thornton and Simmer boosting age averages. Of the 3-4 most important players in each of those teams, only Tavares comes to mind as over 30.

Florida
Barkov 26 6+ NHL seasons
Huberdeau 28 9+ NHL seasons
Ekblad 25 7+ NHL seasons
Bobrovsky 33 11+ NHL seasons.

It's the same for the other teams I mentioned.
