They need a G but it doesn't stand for Giroux.

I see what you did there. 100% correct. Fleury makes sense for them.

True, scoring is certainly not their issue. Maybe a veteran D rental or an insurance goalie (Martin Jones) , they are currently icing Jack Johnson lol. Not sure when Bryam or Murray is back.
- ClaudeFather

Probably looking for an upgrade over what they have... that might disqualify Jones.

Byram for Hart lol... we could use another PCS-addled former lotto pick.

Talk about a player that would fit into the current culture of the Flyers. DeBrusk sucks!

Always thought it was super weird that his sister and girlfriend looked like twins:

I'd stay far away from Laine.

Re: Foerster, yes, he is an excellent pure shooter. Underrated passer, too. Skating showed improvement; will never be pretty or a speedster but it's something he can work with. Two-way game needed further improvement. Has already had three significant injuries (two to his shoulder) in two pro seasons, so that's a bit of a concern.

When healthy, Foerster fared pretty well in last year's version of the AHL. Struggled out of the gates this year with the league back up to its normal standards -- the entire Phantoms team stumbled out of the gates -- and then was lost for the season before he really had time to show adjustments.

Thanks Bill, I appreciate the Response.
I'm not exactly a huge fan of Laine after watching his ego outgrow my hometown Jets... but I have always admired players with a heavy-shot like his. Hopefully Foerster stays healthy and can provide our future PowerPlay with an Ovi-like Cannon.

Is there anyone at the draft that you're keeping an eye-on? Perhaps in rounds 2 or 3?

I look at the people under Chuck Fletcher currently I think he should seriously consider updating this group:

Vice President & Assistant General Manager Barry Hanrahan
Vice President & Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr
Senior Advisor Paul Holmgren
Senior Advisor Bob Clarke
Senior Advisor Bill Barber
Senior Advisor Dean Lombardi

Brent Flahr is running the drafting and I am fine with that. Hanrahan is nothing more than a contract and cap guy, he wouldn't know a good player from a bad player. So now you are left with Homer, Clarke, Barber as your advisors and none of them are up on the modern game of NHL hockey nor many of the good and upcoming players. Lombardi at least was a GM of the Sharks somewhat recently. I think its long overdue for Fletcher to replace the old guard with better hockey advisors. Fletcher needs some new voices!

- jd250

The senior advisors, yes they have to go. No problem with Flahr.

Lombardi left the Sharks in 2003. Somewhat recently? He is better know as the architect of the Kings and two Cups. Don't know why he hasn't bailed on this.

The biggest issue with your plan is that you want the first guy that needs to go to make all of these replacements.

Fletcher does not choose the sr advisors. Besides those guys don’t set hockey strategy. They have not played a large role in at least 7or 8 yrs.
- Joe Nardone

Those senior advisors are a big issue for this team. They all need to go.

Should be several local area kids drafted this June. Several more from the North Jersey area as well

You are blowing out of proportion they are. They are insignificant on the moves a GM makes.

Clean house.

Gus got a 7th, but Yandle is far worse defensively than Gus was last season.

Yandle's 3.69 ES GA/60 is 8th worst in the league for dmen with 300+ minutes played, and he gets heavily sheltered minutes. Risto is 11th worst, but at least he goes up against mostly good forwards.

On the PP, Yandle has the 3rd worst GA/60 for dmen with 50+ minutes played.

But don't you want to feel confident that your GM is getting the right advice? Looking at these 4 senior advisors, I'm not confident of this at all!

You tell me how much he takes their advice and i'll tell you how soon they need to get rid of them. I think homer may be occassionally, Clarke....next to never. Its just to give him a pay, and some free flights back to philly. Thats about it.

I know right? I would have called up Foerster, Wisdom, Ratcliffe, Sandin, or Allison.

NSIS, but only Allison and maybe Sandin are real options at the moment.

These advisors don't just influence the sitting GM tho. They're in Dave Scott's ear, they're in the President of Hockey Ops' ear (before when the roles were separated), they're in the ear of the other department heads and scouts, the coaches, etc.

We know 100% that Clarke had a hand in Fletcher being hired, and probably Hexy being fired. Just that alone illustrates how big of a shadow these old timers are allowed to cast over the franchise, even in retirement.

Yup, i agree Clarke had a role in Fletcher getting hired, but that was 3 years ago. Listen to that podcast, he golfs every day now. Im sure he will answer a question if scott or homer calls him, but he isnt involved in the business unless asked.

That's another bullet that needs to be dodged.

Bring in young, fresh blood. We need novel solutions to solve all of these persistent problems. Not the same stupid ass way of thinking and doing things.

He doesn't have to go into the office day to day to cause a lot of damage. The wrong piece of advice at the wrong time is enough to throw the ship off course.
