A friend went on a rant on the weekend about terms like "jerk" losing value over time by people always needing to go bigger and better. His point was essentially there's normally a perfectly good word for things that we need to stop trying to go over the top.

A friend of mine said "that's great but you're still an ass-hat"...so it's top of mind for me but I do enjoy the term
