If you get any other trans with it in place of a manual, you're daed to me. (This is the way.)
- Bendecko

i want the manual but i live in new jersey, remember? this traffic isn't friendly for manual driving. i hear the auto in it is really good now anyway. shifting would be more fun but i guess i'll have the paddle shifters.

incidentally, the best shifting manual i ever encountered was in mid 90's acura integras. i never drove a 90's BMW that was a stick though and i hear those were pretty slick shifting jawns.

Really, Kick. If the damage to the bumper is anything more than cosmetic, get it fixed so that it can do its job if you get rear-ended again. It's a safety concern.
- Bendecko

it's just cosmetic. everything held up well but the bumper is all chunked up. even the backup camera is fine and he basically hit me right on it so i'm not sure how it survived.

that's true. kids don't learn to drive them because it's tougher and now none of their parents even own a manual to teach them in.

when i was a kid both my parents cars were automatics so i got a job as a lot attendant at a car dealership (acura, it's how i got familiar with their superior shifting transmissions) and didn't tell them i couldn't drive a manual until after they hired me. then they tossed me the keys to a manual out in the lot and told me to go drive around the lot and figure it out. and the rest is shiftstory.

I've seen that stuff on the food network a bunch but I'm not sure
- Takemedrunkimhome

Try it! It's good! Habbersett if you can find it. I'm not a fan of southern-made offerings, particularly Rapa.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure most, if not all, brands you can get in the supermarket are not made from the offal (the traditional source), but from trimmings of the more normal butchering cuts (like pork bellies, loins, hams)...

Meh. the traffic excuse is a cop-out. You get used to it (and it's bonus exercise). Most standards still left these day use hydraulic actuation rather than cable, and that is way better for more frequent use. Not sure if any are using "Fly-By-Wire" like many throttles.

The stick is still the most fun. More than flappy paddles (more of an illusion of control).

Don't know why people think standards are more complicated to operate. It's all about finding the friction zone with the clutch. The muscle memory will come naturally with repeated use.

BTW, I had to learn to drive with a manual because my parents didn't have automatics when I got my license. Maybe that's why I'm predisposed to them. That and the maintenance is much cheaper (as long as you're not sloppy with the clutch).

I also still think you're right Honda may make the best manual trans. The shifter on the S2000 is maybe the best I've encountered (over Porsches, but those were older vintage). German is kind of overrated for me but maybe that's because I've been bitten by too many ugly repair bills when they break (and they will break, no matter how they're maintained).

If ICE really become extinct, transmissions will probably also go the same way. Maybe for rare applications where gearing is needed for efficiency (will hate to see CVTs the only option in that case).

Ever have grouper cheeks?

I think I might like them more than the fillets, especially when fried. There are places here where you can get them in the sandwiches instead of the fillets.

I also like when hamachi kama is on the menu in washoku establishments.

Went to Florida a few years ago, rented a car that had a CVT transmission. One time entering on the highway I had to floor it and I thought everything would break, as it seemed it didn't really know how to handle the acceleration I was asking for. They probably got better with time, but I wasn't impressed to say the least.

that's why I love standards. except for the rev limiters (and the reverse lockout), there's no question of whose in control.

My last 3 cars had a manual transmission. Bought the one I have now last spring...it was a hassle to find it...there are getting pretty rare.

Is there one near the Walmart in Terrebonne?

Anyway I'm more hungry now than out-of-breath. None of the indoor malls with food courts (rare in these parts these days) have what I'm savoring right now.
