the lasts 2 times the Habs drafted 3rd overall, they drafted poop (KK and AG), hopefully they don't screw it up this time. They also need another top 5 pick next year, it will take some time to fix this mess, they have a bunch of contracts they can't move so let's ride it out and rebuild.
Should be announced on Friday that Hughes is the the new GM, things should start to move after that. I assume Hughes has to sell his players agent contracts, he has 17 players he represents hence the delay in the announcement.

are there any other GMs around the league who are former agents? it does sound like a logical fit, since in a way you manage players in both roles
the MB panic move after he lost Danault to UFA and Carolina made that ridiculous offer, he had to find a center that "could" play top 6. - Symba007
He didn't HAVE to. He "could" have been honest about the roster, go into the year even worse than what is currently the worst team in the league, have a better lock on the best pick this season and another 1st round pick (and future 2nd). But...MB crop dusted us and it smells like protein farts

Not sure, the big name agents probably make decent money for a lot less stress than being a team GM.
