Oh I'm sure there's someone out there. Team will be assessed by Rutherford closer to TDL. Not much should happen until then. Genius GMS here stay start fresh trade everyone except Demko/Hughes lol then get ready for another 5-10 year process. We don't have a Crosby/Malkin/Letang to build around here like Rutherford had in PIT. Have to work with what we have and if that means keeping Miller moving forward so he can be part of the core so be it...Jedi.

I'd try and re-sign Miller.

Comparables were set Landeskog's 8 year deal at 7M is a pretty good comparable for what Miller should be getting.

Max Patches 4 year at 7M.

JVR at 5 years 7M

Kreider 7 years 6.5M

If Miller thinks he is worth more than that, then trade his ass.

I think most are smart enough to realize that nothing will happen, until Rutherford has done an assessment, but are also smart enough to realize that there will be some changes made.
It doesn't take a hockey genius to realize that this is a poorly constructed team.

If this is a poorly constructed team. I think only team Canada would suit your fancy.

A team that lacks another high end player or finding a way to get current players to perform on a regular basis at the high end.

What Bruce hasn't really been able to do is create PK'ers out of not very good PK'ers

64.9 before Bruce and 75.9 with Bruce. Still only 23rd in the league in that time.

I would be pretty stoked if the Canucks could land that good Ole Canadian boy, David Jiricek, this upcoming draft.

I don't think signing Miller until he's 38 is a good idea. I'd be down if he signed a Patches kind of term, but doubt he won't try to cash in as much as he can.

I read 86% since he took over, which would put them third best in the league. What they did before he got there is irrelevant.

Not saying he is the same but Pavelski is 37 and a PPG still.

Carter is 37 and has 22 points in 32 games.

A few other 35-36 years olds that are still doing really well.

As most GM's say, they figure the last few years of those contracts are probably on LTIR.

Ideally if you could get the Patches term that would be ideal. Might have to see where the team is at then though whether taking a bit of discount on final contract to win a SC.

Absolutely if the deal is good for the club. Your comparables are good 3-4 years would be best.

75.9% That is from Dec 5th the day Bruce was hired till now. They weren't exactly good vs TB or FLA on the PK. Might have brought that 86% down.

He would be a pretty good fit for top pairing with Hughes by his scouting reports.

NHL central scouting came out and I was pretty disappointed when I saw Pavel Mintyukov and Cutter Gauthier ranked at 5th and 6th among NA skaters.

Obviously those rankings don't mean anything but those are two players that I was kind of hoping would slip into mid later first round that Van could snag if they did end up there.

Not saying he couldn't play until that age, just more unlikely than not.

IMO the Canucks window isn't for another 2 years to be competitive. So it's an equation of keeping JTM for that window and spending more cap to do, versus trading him for assets that will have an impact in that 2-4 year time frame at a lesser cap hit.

I personally think there are players that could help more in that time frame with the additional cap space that trading JTM will provide.

Just look at what was acquired for players sort of similar to Miller in trades.

Patrik Berglund · $3,850,000
Vladimír Sobotka · $3,500,000
Tage Thompson · $925,000
2019 1st round pick (STL - #31 - Ryan Johnson) [Conditional]*
2021 2nd round pick (STL - #49 - Ben Roger)

For O'Reilly.

Vladislav Namestnikov · $1,937,500
Brett Howden · $894,166
Libor Hájek · $0 (AHL/JR)
2018 1st round pick (TBL - #28 - Nils Lundkvist)
2019 2nd round pick (TBL - #58 - Karl Henriksson) [Conditional]*

For Miller and McDonagh

Danny O'Regan · $0 (AHL/JR)
2019 1st round pick (SJS - #29 - Brayden Tracey) [Conditional]*
2019 4th round pick (SJS - #122 - Ethan Keppen) [Conditional]***

For Kane.

Jori Lehterä · $4,700,000
2018 1st round pick (STL - #14 - Joel Farabee) [Conditional]*
2017 1st round pick (WSH - #27 - Morgan Frost)

For Brayden Schenn. The Flyers are not better 4 years later.

Only reason why it really worked out for Colorado trading away Duchene was because Ottawa is a horribly run hockey club and got lucky to get Byram.

It looks like all the teams that traded for the better current NHLer won those deals.

Are those all the trades, or just some hand picked ones? Clearly not all as you noted the Colorado trade (with Byram and Sam Girard coming out of it), and the O'Reilly one is widely noted as a terrible trade. The Flyers not being better 4 years later isn't really hinged on one trade: if they kept Schenn they're probably just as bad as they are now

I would hope Rutherford would trade JTM for more proven assets/young players than picks, as the value of late round picks isn't as good as a known commodity IMO.

Those were just trades for as I said somewhat similar types to Miller. Again depending on who you are trading too.

Dylan DeMelo · $900,000
Chris Tierney · $2,937,500
Rūdolfs Balcers · $0 (AHL/JR)
Joshua Norris · $0 (Signing Rights)
2020 1st round pick (SJS - #3 - Tim Stützle) [Conditional]*
2021 2nd round pick (SJS - #39 - Zack Ostapchuk) [Conditional]***
2019 2nd round pick (FLA - #44 - Jamieson Rees) [Conditional]******
Conditional 1st round pick****

This return for Karlsson obviously looks better in Ottawa's favour now but this trade happened 4 years ago. Ottawa has been poop since then and are still poop.

Oscar Lindberg · $1,700,000
Erik Brännström · $0 (AHL/JR)
2020 2nd round pick (DAL - #61 - Egor Sokolov)

For Mark Stone. They got a mid round first prospect who still can't make the poopty Senators.

Tomas Tatar ($500,000 retained - 9.4%) · $4,800,000
Nick Suzuki · $0 (AHL/JR)
2019 2nd round pick (CBJ - #50 - Samuel Fagemo)

Suzuki looks good enough return for Patches alone but Suzuki certainly not helping the team win games this season. Again 3 years after that trade was made.
