Stop, you'll give Fido an heart attack - Xizord
I can't wait for the press conference annoncing the new gm where I am sure they will be asked about who does what on that tag team.
you guys think gm around the league do nothing? it's all the big bosses doing everything. Shanahan, Burke... they decide it all ! Dubas and Hextall play solitaire all day. |

According to Bobby Clarke, Hextall ignores everybody else in the building and may as well have all the roles and titles himself because that's how he runs his shop. Not like those comments by Clarke were self serving and designed to paint him and Fletcher in a more positive light...no chance of that |

oh I'm not saying Hextall is a good gm, I'm saying gms run the team, not Pres of hockey ops. |

Because communicating with the media shouldn't be the thing people care about when hiring a GM. Is Lou Lams a good communicator with the media? Nope...but he does win a LOT. I'd take a (frank)ing mute who refuses to sign if they can build a winning team |

I'm sure the new GM will be able to select more than the brand of coffee in the office, but likely will be more focused on the day to day things.
Gorton is running this show.
Can't be more clear.

Lots of organizations have different make ups and power structures but for those on the Gorton will do everything and run the show camp my question is simply why would anybody really want that job then? If you're just a puppet everybody will know so why take your career down that path?
My guess is Gorton runs it like the NYR where he works with a green GM and they delegate responsibilities. If Hughes for an example I imagine those contract negotiation experiences will be helpful. I imagine he'd have thoughts on player development from his experiences. And while Hughes is getting up to speed on drafting and trades for example, Gorton can take the lead until Hughes is on the same page. |

never said it should be a hiring criteria, I was talking about him managing expectations and be well understood enough by the fanbase so that they don't have a terrible opinion of him from the get go. |

Meh...build a winner and fans will have the right opinion. Cater to the non winning stuff and you may have a popular GM and a loser all at the same time. Winning fixes EVERYTHING |

my assumption is that it will be Gorton's blueprint, and the GM's job to execute it. i'm sure the GM will have autonomy. waiver pick ups, trading guys like Ben Chiarot, etc. but on bigger, more strategic moves it will be collaboration.

I never said that.
I said Gorton will run the show, does not mean the GM will sit there and make coffee all day. But those expecting the GM to run the show are clearly delusional - when big decisions need to be made, it will be Gorton that has the final say. |
