This feels more like "losing with dignity" a TML staple than tanking. The Sabres just aren't that talented. But they try hard, and didn't send down UPL when he was playing well even though they could have rolled with tank-esque tendies down the stretch. They are trying to win with the players they have, the players they have just aren't all that great (yet, there's a little positivity). We'll see what happens going forward, hopefully some meaningful games eventually. Tank years saw them ship out any player with a pulse for winning. That was embarrassingly gross, and turns out one player can't save a franchise (McDavid not Eichel have) - SDSabre
mcdavid gets you winning records and playoff games though

this year, yeah, you might say that...
then again you could also say that it started with that thought but also injuries and covid protocols submarined the positivity meatballs and co. brought this season...
this is nothing like '13-'15 save for some goaltending woes (due more to injury than anything else) and veteran pluggers (but not as many as those tank years)

I would say there is 5 or 6 guys that are playing on a regular basis for the sabres that has no business skating with an NHL team
they tanked longer, had better draft results and had a stealth tank get them a generational player...
tanking works - Michael Pachla
Tank/stank/tank/stank/tank/stank/tank/stank/ eventually the stank needs to be made the playoffs, but we can’t seem to pull that off.
Easy explanation why:
Terrible drafting
Terrible trades
Terrible acquisitions
Terrible coaching
No Senior leadership to right the ship

Butcher, Cagguila, Dell, Eakin, Hayden, Houser, Subban, maybe Bjork and Jankowski (see these guys as 13F/4th liners I guess). Issue I see is that a lot of the guys we do have aren't top 6 (not there yet if they will become).
Few of these are redundant (goalies due to injury or being bad).
So yeah, pretty spot on. Luckily most of these guys won't see the Sabres ice beyond next year anyways.

I mean, I can see some positivity here. Quinn looks like the real deal (crow tastes delicious before anyone jumps on me) JJP as well. Krebs can stir a drink, Tuch is a good player, picks picks and more picks. Plugs SHOULD be gone after this year. Grab a couple of decent players (trades or FA) with a pedigree of winning and this could turn into a fun team next year, with some ups and downs. I will hold due to past incompetence though, until proven otherwise.
