The Oilers aren't giving a divisional rival a top 5 team prospect and koskinen for another koskinen. That is a Chiarelli move.

So what is your solution to the problem Mr. TurdHolland?
- carsonagenic

I would hope not trading a 20 year old first round defense prospect for a 36 year old goalie.

I would not put it past Holland to do something just like this to make the playoffs.

Careful... Holland can pull a Holland at any time. And Turd and I had a good conversation afterwards. I don't expect a trade that bad, but something has to be done and they don't have many bullets in the chamber. No cap space, no real tradable roster players that either they want to move or other teams want. That leaves picks and prospect trades with a salary dump required and mid season goalie cost premiums.
Good luck improving without paying for it...

Yep... welcome to the world of Ken Holland. Hard to believe how much of a mess he can make in such a short amount of time. Edmonton's only hope is that the ownership will tire of his terrible asset management and cut him loose.

Broberg was drafted before Podkolzin. Now ask yourself would you trade podkolzin for Halak?

A better question would be if you would trade a 2026 7th round conditional pick for Halak? Like wtf is his name even being discussed for?

Canucks are not in the the Oilers position as a win now squad, with the 2 best players in the game, and GM and coach feeling the pressure. So the comparison doesn't line up totally. In a direct comparison, fantasy trade, no I would not trade Podz for Halak of course. But a lot of teams in the Oilers position historically have done some crazy trades to make the dance. A just before the deadline deal for the Canucks in...

1) He is playing better than both the Oilers goalies, which isn't too hard,
2) The Oilers are moving on from Koskinen, and they have no cap to do it with thanks to Holland and his over $30 mil drunken off season shopping spree,
3) Smith's days as reliable healthy starter, let alone someone that can carry a team at 39 are over,
4) Holland and Tippett don't play rookies let alone rookie goalies (Skinner),
5) The only assets the Oilers have to trade are their picks and prospects. Nobody wants Kassian, Turris, etc.
6) There are very few veteran goalies available that can at least reliably split duties that can help them. and they won't be free or even cheap.

I just threw some poop at a wall to see what will stick, and get the Oilers dead thread alive...lol
I still have yet to hear from anyone, a solid realistic theory on what the Oilers are going to do? McD and Drai are not going to be happy with another season being wrote off, let alone Oiler fans. Especially after the smoke and mirrors start they had.

The Oilers have a 5v5 save percentage of only .909, which ranks them above only the Arizona Coyotes, New Jersey Devils, and Seattle Kraken. That's is some top competition there...

I don’t know if any publicly available stats but I’d venture a guess that the oilers give up near league leading odd man rush chances.

Ya I would guess the same on that. It just seems that the whole structure of the team doesn't work, for what ever reason. The secondary cast / btm 6 is a tire fire every year no matter what they try. The defense is built on youth on one side and past primes on the other. The goaltending was over rated by the GM to the point of it possibly costing the season. And why can't they play any type of system to limit chances against? The only answer the coach has is put out 97 / 29 in all situations... How do you fix this? Outside of the nuclear option which Katz won't do, or trading one one the "Chosen Ones"

Babcock’s wife already vetoed a move back to northern Alberta a few years back. There is no chance they will be moving to Edmonton.
People just bring him up because of the Holland connection.

I know the family in lloydminster you dippoop. When they hired McLellan they did so because Babcock already informed them he wasn’t an option. He interviewed with half a dozen other teams. Wonder why he didn’t interview at all with the oilers??

Cool. Call him up and ask him when he’s moving to Edmonton.

I’m sure your lines of communication from playing in college 30 years ago are more current than his brother in law!

At this point, if you could get him for the rest of the season at a sub 1 mil price tag, why not. Team is a poop show anyway. I think some other team will end up paying quite a bit to sign him though.

Yeah if I was him I wouldn’t want to be anywhere in the spot light. Sounds like some other contenders are kicking the tires. Florida, TBay, Vegas, Toronto, Carolina.
