Why do you need a formula? These guys are a similar age. No need to go back to Sam's first 3 seasons, when VO wasn't good enough to play in the AHL.

(X-21.6) / (0.95Y) = A

VO's on a 2 year bridge that is very similar to Sam's at the time. All those extra seasons Sam has put him a year closer to UFA, so of course he's making more. His deal bought 2 UFA years.
