When are we ever going to get to get a true starting goaltender? Every goaltender we've had, including Blackwood, since Schneider screwed us out of McDavid/Eichel/Matthews/Laine has been subpar.
- vlongo4419

Blackwood supposedly playing injured and having no other capable goalies will do that to a team.

It's not just this year though. He's finish in the negative in goals saved above expected every year of his career. He's a decent 1A/1B, but he's not a true franchise starter

Ruff is in covid protocol and Devils are suddenly competitive against a strong team. Coincidence?

goalie stats really volatile in both directions so absolutely not a guy who can carry you through 60+ starts. Probably less of a problem if Bernier doesn't die and they have a fairly even work load. I'm just glad we're not committed long term and not for a large amount. The window for goalies to be good is just so short compared to other positions. Hopefully either Daws or Schmid (after some more time developing) has it in them but still a few years time at best.

I agree with this for sure. It's why I'm a big proponent of spending one mid round pick drafting a goalie every single year. Just hope you eventually hit on one.

Theres still holes in the lineup and big needs but this team as it stands right now without PP being somewhat competent is a bubble team, or even a playoff team, with just league average goaltending.

Yeah they've fallen from 1st in the west to almost out of a playoff spot because McDavid and Draisaitl have come back to earth. If they aren't carrying Edmonton then they're not a good team.

This game in general was just bad goaltending all the way around, both sides. 10 even strength goals on a combined 4.8 expected goals

Sad thing is, they have a 23 year old tender ready to play some minutes in the NHL, but nope, lets rely on a 41 year old goalie and a guy that's not even backup level.

Just a lack of depth. Puljujarvi and Hyman are solid, but the former has dropped off after a hot start and Hyman was injured for a bit. Nuge has been oaky, but not a lot of goals and gets a ton of PP assists.

After that... I mean Foegele and McLeod are solid bottom 6 pieces... It's still a problem though.

Let's not talk about the back end.

Yeah this seems right for sure. We all knew what you guys were getting with Hyman and hes living up to it, but im really impressed with Puljujarvi this year, hes really having a breakout year(playing at a 67ish point pace i believe). Definitely some depth issues though. Hows the Oilers pipeline looking after Holloway and Lavoie up front and Broberg on the back end?(not including Bouchard or McLeod since theyre up now)

Definitely agree though, i imagine someone like Ethan Bear wouldve been nice to have. Now i feel like Holland needs to find try to find someone like him lol. No disrespect to Foegele, but i didnt understand that move the moment it happened.

They had to trade Bear because he didn't do the important thing which is put up counting totals and he "screwed up" once in some playoff game. This is why you spend a lot of assets to get Duncan Keith, so you can tell everybody how many cups he won with Chicago and how that'll teach the kids how to play.

Hot start, he's cooled off quite a bit since. However, I still like his game as he's pretty damn responsible with the puck. Works his ass off defensively as well.

Definitely some depth issues though. Hows the Oilers pipeline looking after Holloway and Lavoie up front

Xaiver Bourgault (2021 1st) has 22 goals and 42 points in 24 games in the Q. Right handed shooting center.

Matvey Petrov (2021 6th) has 20 goals and 51 points in 30 games in the O. Third in goals and the two players ahead of him are older.

Carter Savoie (2020 4th) has 12 goals and 22 points in 16 games at the University of Denver

Tyler Tullio (2020 5th) has 12 goals and 38 points in the O this season. Another RHS center.

Basically the only prospects they have. Cooper Marody should get a chance, but the lad is old.

and Broberg on the back end?(not including Bouchard or McLeod since theyre up now)

Defensively... it's actually pretty barren (obviously Broberg and Bouchard are pretty good prospects)

They drafted Luca Muzenberger (2021 3rd) who had a solid showing for Germany.

Dimitri Samorukov (2017 3rd) is a defenseman that is regarded highly amongst Oilers fans. Too bad he made two mistakes early in the first on Wednesday and played 2:28 in total.

Markus Niemelainen (2016 3rd) has played 7 games in the NHL. Gets walked around quite a lot, but the guy is a monster and crushes people. Better than Russell.

Vincent Desharnais (2016 7th), Phil Kemp (2017 7th), Michael Kesselring (2018 6th) are all guys that may get a few games in the NHL, but don't have a high ceiling.

Definitely agree though, i imagine someone like Ethan Bear wouldve been nice to have. Now i feel like Holland needs to find try to find someone like him lol. No disrespect to Foegele, but i didnt understand that move the moment it happened.

This was actually the only move that made a little bit of sense. Still mind-numbingly dumb though. Foegele is a solid player, forechecks hard and is a solid bottom 6 player that can play middle six if need be. However, trading Bear for him was absolutely stupid.

Bear liked Edmonton, but more than that was that his value was at it's lowest. Had the traded him after the 2019-20 season, they could have gotten a much better player back. He also dealt with a concussion last season, so his sophomore slump made sense. Giving up on him after a promising rookie season was idiotic.

That's one thing, but replacing him with Barrie, Ceci and Bouchard... christ. They had a good RHD lineup of Bear, Larsson, Barrie (Bouchard) last season, and replacing Barrie with Bouchard was the logical step.

They were always going to lose Larsson, but replacing him with Ceci on a 4x3.25 contract is unforgiveable.

Let's not talk about their LHD issues.

DK: "Hey Chicago GM, I want to be traded to a West Coast team, even though I have a cap hit of 5.5 for the next two years and I'm 38"

Chicago GM: "Sure, that's okay, but we'll have to retain 50% and probably give up a pick, because you've clearly shown heavy regression the past few years"

Ken (frank)ing Holland: "Hey Chicago, I'll trade you Caleb Jones, younger brother of Seth Jones and a depth LHD that we'll desperately need for Keith. We'll also take Keith's full cap hit... Oh, and here's a third if we make the playoffs"

Holland is a complete Buffon. Bob Nicholson is the dumbest man alive for hiring Holland and Chiarelli. Also Tippet sucks.
