Yeah Ciri's mom dies, possibly in child birth. Can't recall but yeah her grandma is the queen.

Hard to say present as it ends with Ciri as a child and in season two she's a semi trained adult...so...?

I am a heavy book reader.

Yes there are changes, but no, it really (so far, did not watch 7 yet) doesn't change the spirit of the books. They have had to make changes to push the story forward, condense some stuff, move stuff up to make this easier to understand later, etc...

The major change in the first season is told mostly from Moiraine's perspective than the person in the books (will leave it at that to avoid spoilers).

First 2 episodes are meh, but after that I think it keeps getting better.

It is such a mammoth, and at times confusing, series that there was no way they were going to be true to the whole series.

What they eventually do with some of the Forsken (Lanfear, Semirhage especially) should be interesting.
